THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Hey IT guys, here's something weird that I'm not going to call our service desk about. The approved browser here is IE7. Every so often it'll just decide to stop browsing...whether you click on a link or type a new address in, it'll just sit there idling forever (it won't time out either). If I close it (just X, not kill it) and re-open it, things work fine again. Most of the time. Sometimes I have to do it twice. Any idea what that would be?

Mine does the SAME friggin thing.

Annoying as hell.

That's the browser we're forced to use too and that's the only solution I've found to work. No one else here seems to have figured it out. They just keep hitting refresh, staring, and swearing.

For a while we were stuck on IE6. Not having tabs sucked.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I've had my eyes set on a P226 for awhile, just can't seem to ever have the funds for it.

Also, anyone care to guess how fun it is to get your IP removed from spam blocking sites because your off-site email host had an issue? Yeah. Fun. Lots of Fun.

Forgot to add the the main issue started because ComCast does not set up unique PTR records by default. :flamemad:You have to request it for each IP.
:moon:
So because it doesn't interest you we should stop chatting about it? :D

:kissyou:

Which is precisely why a lot of the "fun money" has stopped flowing.
dear god, your upstream is scumcast? Good luck. Most RBLs block all of comcast iirc.

Sucks about the lack of fun money, but building houses is a hell of a lot of fun too. Weather is looking really promising right now

that's one of the latest features microsoft added. Seriously though, not sure.

I use FireFox for everything I can. If a page breaks with firefox (a lot of stupid IT-created internal pages do, due to activeX controls and general idiocy) I will open it in iexplore.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Has anyone shot a Springfeild XD in a 9mm? i've shot the .40 and .45. The .40 is meh at best and the .45 is just too big for me to even plausibly carry.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

theres no solution.. IE7 just sucks. 8 is at least useable.
Ok, I can accept that there's no solution. But I still want to know why it does it.

Yeah.

"We're sorry, but your fun quota has been exceeded for this session. Please try again later."

Another LEO buddy of mine recently got a Springfield XD and swears by it, I dunno what caliber though.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Bill, did you end up getting that pork?
I did. I did not start it yet though. Maybe tomorrow, if not it'll have to be Friday afternoon.
Me being <130 lbs I like the compact frame a little more...also just from shooting experience it's what works best for me.
I have not had a chance with the P229, but the P226 felt good. I'll have to look it over before I do any purchasing.

As been posted, no solution. Get rid of IE7.
Exactly why I'm not unhappy with the amount of welding & fab I've done on this trailer project. That hole saw is up to 60 holes now, btw. :D
Nice!

Unfortunatly the budgets only allow this. Should be fixed in "24 to 48 hours". I mean come on how long does it really take to add that record?

I'm excited.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

My blinker wont blink. I replaced the bulb, it blinked right, but once I drive it it wont blink. The comanche bulb is different than an xj bulb. The prongs on the side are offset, they only go in one way. If I put it in the wrong way it will stay solid when I put the blinker on, but not blink. I cannot simply ground the bulb itself like an xj bulb to see if it's simply a ground issue since the connect is two "nipples" at the bottom instead of one. I can shove a screwdriver into the socket to bridge the two connect at the bottom and the blinkers will start to blink.

Ken?

I can actually understand this. What's the TTL on the old PTR record? Sometimes they'll set a real long TTL if they know the record won't be updated or changed for a long long time because it reduces request traffic to their DNS servers... I always set a TTL of 30 minutes because I am impatient and want my changes to take effect ASAP, but I frequently see 1 or 2 day TTLs on DNS records. Some people using DNS servers that aren't caching records will see the update quickly while others using caching DNS servers that respect the TTL settings will not see them for quite some time.

I don't know. Probably 6 weeks.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Since it's apparently a software issue then and not related to my network connection, that narrows it down a bit.

I'd guess it's related to this:

When Internet Explorer establishes a persistent HTTP connection with a Web server (by using Connection: Keep-Alive headers), Internet Explorer reuses the same TCP/IP socket that was used to receive the initial request until the socket is idle for one minute. After the connection is idle for one minute, Internet Explorer resets the connection. A new TCP/IP socket is used to receive additional requests. You may want to change the HTTP KeepAliveTimeout value in Internet Explorer.

If either the client browser (Internet Explorer) or the Web server has a lower KeepAlive value, it is the limiting factor. For example, if the client has a two-minute timeout, and the Web server has a one-minute timeout, the maximum timeout is one minute. Either the client or the server can be the limiting factor.

By default, Internet Explorer has a KeepAliveTimeout value of one minute and an additional limiting factor (ServerInfoTimeout) of two minutes. Either setting can cause Internet Explorer to reset the socket.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813827

So what probably happens is every now and then a server will lag past the keep-alive time and IE will get bored, stop waiting for it, and switch to a different socket. Kinda like changing a CB channel once people stop talking on it, and wondering where everyone went even though you never told them what channel you were changing to...?

Like I said, I've never handled or shot a P226, but a P229 fits very comfortably in my hand with the stock grips. I looked over the models some more and the P239 was definitely the one we both felt was just way too small. Between the P226 and P229 you don't gain any extra capacity (even less so in MA). What turned you on to the P226 so much?

Tell that to the DoD.

Holy shit!

Update: Aircraft slams into 4 buildings... (graphic)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Disaster Strikes: This amazing photo shows great detail.

The pilot at low level had no control over his aircraft. It narrowly misses a huge crowd gathered for the air show and slams into four buildings.

One can only imagine the horror of the occupants inside those buildings.
