THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm planning my next build over 9 months in advance.

I'm not even gonna start building that thing until I have as many parts acquired and as much of the technical stuff figured out as possible. No way in XXXX am I gonna waste almost a year building something again.

After working here for nearly 5 years, my mentality on (and ability for) project management has completely changed for the better.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm closing in on 8 months for my build and I'm doing less than what most people do when they go to tons.

Granted a lot of it is a learning experience for me.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I sacrificed every other hobby I had to get my MJ going so I could wheel it. I don't take trips anywhere, I don't buy video games or stuff for the '70 duster, etc.
you say this like it is already going :moon:

I am going to show up while you are not there and get all the wiring working. Then I'm going to wire your horn to your reverse lights and door switches.

Yeah... I'm still in procure parts mode for the 98 and the redneck death-kart / 2.5L+AX5+NP231+d30+d35 contraption. When all the parts are lined up for one I'll start building it, no matter which one it is...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i should be done by nac fest, no reason i wont be. its all bolt together for the most part, and the cage shouldnt be hard. i've never built one but my friends have and theyre helping... plus i have this here naxja to help with picsz of what to do.

and i pretty much sacrificed everything except building this, i bought my camera and thats it.. but all my buddies are into jeeps and are building shit, and i really dont have anything else to do except go to work.. but i dont mind, it makes me happy.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

ok really, if no one from here puts a good pic up on the chapter contest by the time im home, i'm putting my old jeep in. not one picture is good yet.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

anybody know where to source 2gauge wire and some connectors and stuff locally?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

you bitches need to sto parguing so XXXXing much, seen way to many peaple get butt hurt and disapear off the face of the earth

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

BTW i think im gonna keep the 98 this summer, in case i destroy the 95 shell beyond use cause of me being in get shit dont mode right now

what type? Solid or stranded? Regular heavy strand or thin-strand welding cable?

solid/regular heavy strand - home depot
thin strand welding cable - airgas, any other welding shop

you can get crimp on terminals for 4 gauge at home depot, but not for 2 gauge, they only have screw on terminals for that. Can get crimp on terminals for 2 gauge at autozone (they're in the area with the battery terminals.) I need to make a set of dies for my crimper to handle 2 gauge, right now my max is 4 gauge. Figure I'll probably grind out the 10awg dies it came with since I don't need to use a hydro crimper on cable that small.

How much do you need? Wiring up a winch? I bet a car audio shop would have that, but it might be a little more expensive. Maybe Radio Shack?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I have some 1/0 crimping terminals you're welcome to make work, if you need them.

i dunno what would be best. probably thin strand. im going from the batts on the truck to the back so i can run a winch.

i probably need like 20ft of red 20ft of black. my truck is a long girl. i also need some sort of quick connector so i can unplug the winch

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

...I might be thinking about this wrong, but I think you could get away with a short length of black and just ground it to the chassis.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

What I'd do - a couple feet of welding cable from the battery to splices on the frame done with screw on butt splice terminals (check home depot for these.) From the splices to the rear, heavy strand wire because it's cheaper. Then an Anderson PowerPole connector (the kind used for snowplows and forklifts, etc) on the rear bumper or just inside the bed, and a set of welding cable jumpers from the winch to the matching Anderson PowerPole.

Anthony is also correct, as long as you have a decent ground cable from the battery to the frame (both batteries, if you put one in the bed or on the trailer) you can use the frame as your negative.

I thought so. Thanks for confirming. That's what we do for car audio. My ground wire in my VW is no more than 2' long.

edit: Jon, the other thing you might want to do, in that case, would be to run another heavy gauge ground wire from the neg terminal to the frame. Who knows how heavy the stock ground wire is. I know that I need to do this in my VW still...

yeah... any frame I would not trust as a ground, I also wouldn't trust to drive and certainly not to tow :laugh2:

I'm still rockin' the goofy little 8ga ground from the battery to the fender wall on my XJ, if I get bored tonight I might crimp up a better one. It's awesome being able to just make my own heavy gauge cable sets.
