THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm hoping to head down Wednesday or Thursday. Either way it'll be about a 7 hour drive so I better get started early.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

im gonna decide the day i leave i bet

you guys with your crazy schedules

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

nacfest is in like a year dude.

i have to request time off work son

5 months away.

I feel like I'm pressed for time already.

same. i feel like doing my cage will be the thing that holds me back, i have all the parts for the front axle cept a locker, rear is built, suspension is a kit... once i have the parts here i can essentially bolt it all together in a weekend.

famous last words.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

11 hours including breakdowns, right?

Because my 7 hour estimate is 45mph in the 5ton... 11 hours is insane unless a breakdown is involved!

Now I can't decide if I should start before you guys so you find me when I break down, or after so I find you when you break down.

My money is on Ken...he's a safe bet.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I think it would be more fun for you to you finish your jeep so you could come wheeling.

Am I the only one that constantly thinks about what to do next to my MJ and doesn't even consider side projects until it's done?
It would be fun, yep :gee:

You might be, yes.
I just don't like working on more than one project "for fun". I never get anything done that way.

And Anthony that wasn't meant to be a shot at you, I just can't multi-task among different projects. I feel like I never get anything done and then get unmotivated.
The way I see it, all the projects are for fun.

Naw it's ok. I think your priorities are different. You want to get wheeling again very very badly.
Honestly dude, and this is not meant to be an insult, snipe at you, but from everything you've been doing lately, it seems a little like you are "done" with Jeeps and wheeling. You have other stuff on your mind that you want to do. Nothing wrong with that, I was very damn close to that point myself.
I think if I were done I'd have not bought all these expensive parts. I just think it's going to take a while. You said it yourself that you went on a haitus for a bit but then came back.
I tried machining one out of a piece of 1.5" x 0.25" cold-rolled flat stock. I set it in a mill and tilted the head a few degrees, and basically just machined a knife edge into it. I left a tiny flat between the edges to finish on a stone, and then I heat-treated and carbon-quenched the whole thing to case-harden it.

The handle was fun too, I drew it up as two halves in Pro/E and ran it on our school's small CNC machine. Used two small pieces of aluminum for that.

Turns out the knife didn't hold an edge worth a damn and was basically useless after I tried to cut one piece of wire with it. I've still got it as a paper weight somewhere.
Neat. I think I'd probably go the route of hammering into shape then heat treating and all that jazz. It won't happen anytime soon, it's just a neat idea.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

No I mean't more than one project that's only results are for me to have fun.

Like maintaining a house or a car isn't a "fun" project to me, it's something that has to get done.

I mean like the sound system in your VW, my MJ, tuning my CTD or something like that.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'll make a kit. I require a rust free '92 MJ short bed and a built 440.
I will then give you everything you need to drop a 440 into your engine bay after I complete the "design and testing" phase. You will not be getting the testing parts back.

I'll give you the front half of an XJ since they're the same thing, and a rusty old 440 block with some lame heads.

You don't need a running 440 to build motor mounts and fit the block between the rails.

:D
