THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

All I can think about is that I want to put the damn steering box back into my jeep.

I've been driving the dirty POS since Friday night and while it's nice to drive, it isn't as fun...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I think it would be fun to forge my own knife from scratch. It would probably come out like poop though.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I think it would be more fun for you to you finish your jeep so you could come wheeling.

Am I the only one that constantly thinks about what to do next to my MJ and doesn't even consider side projects until it's done?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Pretty much, I think...

I always have at least ten or twenty projects going. Some just get more attention than others. Late March and April can't come soon enough, this snow is really really slowing me down.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i cant wait for the snow tomorrow! Sucks my jeep is in 2wd mode right now untill i have time to do the d30 gears.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Well it's obvious you own a house, that's different.

I just don't like working on more than one project "for fun". I never get anything done that way.

And Anthony that wasn't meant to be a shot at you, I just can't multi-task among different projects. I feel like I never get anything done and then get unmotivated.

Bill/Chris.

Dana 60 carrier break is 4:10- and 4.56+.

They do make thick cut 5.38s for HP60s so I might go that route so I'm not buying a new carrier.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

A few companies do. You don't remember my whole thick/thin gear issue?
I am running thick cut 5.38s in my HP D60.

I actually only count the house as one project... :doh:

Lessee... current "projects":
* MJ
* 98 XJ (mostly not a project, and trapped behind a few hundred feet of 2' deep snow on bald street tires till spring)
* 96 XJ (only a project when I have too much fun and break it again)
* M54A2 (waiting on parts)
* jeep electronics research - TCU stuff, ABS/electronic traction control stuff, GPS/tracking/remote killswitch/remote start/APRS system, 97+ stereo aux in modification, etc - all sorta different projects
* house
* building a model house, have been building it slowly since I was like 9. I've mostly stopped building this and have instead been buying materials to do the same things to the real house :laugh2:
* axle swap stuff for the 98 (8.8, 44, 60 maybe... etc etc)

Basically some I work on a lot, some I work on a little, and some I work on when I'm stuck on the other projects or bored/feel like it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'll call up Morris on Thursday and see if they can get the Yukons in.

I'll probably buy the gears/install kits from them and all the axle crap from ECGS.

Honestly dude, and this is not meant to be an insult, snipe at you, but from everything you've been doing lately, it seems a little like you are "done" with Jeeps and wheeling. You have other stuff on your mind that you want to do. Nothing wrong with that, I was very damn close to that point myself.

I tried machining one out of a piece of 1.5" x 0.25" cold-rolled flat stock. I set it in a mill and tilted the head a few degrees, and basically just machined a knife edge into it. I left a tiny flat between the edges to finish on a stone, and then I heat-treated and carbon-quenched the whole thing to case-harden it.

The handle was fun too, I drew it up as two halves in Pro/E and ran it on our school's small CNC machine. Used two small pieces of aluminum for that.

Turns out the knife didn't hold an edge worth a damn and was basically useless after I tried to cut one piece of wire with it. I've still got it as a paper weight somewhere.

Never had it, honestly had to look it up to see what it was. I don't think I'd like it.

Nope, if I've got my XJ in the shop to do something, I'm in complete project-manager mode to get it done. Like I won't start working on it unless I know I have parts coming when I need them, etc. And if I know it's gonna sit immobile for a while - like after the last race, where I had to rebuild the rear shocks, front kingpins, etc - I'll usually arrange a spot for it to sit outside so it's not blocking anyone else's work.

My friend who actually owns the shop is the complete opposite. At any given time he's got piles of unfinished projects everywhere and never gets anything done. He'll be in the middle of working on something, then suddenly get an idea about something else and abandon the first thing.

I can't really say anything, as it's his shop, but I always hope that my work methods rub off on him a little bit. :laugh: That's also why I work the way I do - because I see how little he actually gets accomplished, and I want to minimize the time I spend taking up space.
