In theory I'll have two races already done before NACFest.

Pretty much that means I'll spend the first half of the year generating my NACFest list and leaving a week and a half before it to actually take care of things. This didn't work out so well last year.

I *think* things should go better this year though. A lot of the bullshit got worked out over the last season.

I had a half-gallon of apple cider I needed to get rid of, so I'm trying a batch of hot spiced cider in the slow cooker.

Idea is to bring it to a simmer/boil for 15-20 minutes with the spices and stuff, then just back it down to 'warm' and enjoy at leisure. If all goes well, I'll enjoy some tonight with a lil bourbon as a nightcap, and should have enough left over tomorrow morning to throw in a travel mug for the ride to work (sans bourbon).

I heat/boil the cider and add the spices (whole cloves & cinnamon), let it simmer for like 10 minutes. Then take whatever you're gonna put it in, add a layer of bourbon (or rum) on the bottom, and pour the cider over it. Then mix it up a little.

Yeah, boiling it with the bourbon would take out some of the alcohol. I'd rather not do that. It's surprising how 'strong' you can make this and not taste a hint of the bourbon, even doing it the first way I described.

Boiling the cider takes out some of the water to make the flavor stronger, and also breaks down the sweetness a little bit. Also makes it so it can absorb the spices better (kinda like brewing tea). It's pretty impressive the difference just a few minutes of boiling and adding spices makes compared to the taste straight from the jug.

My slow-cooker still isn't boiling but it should start in the next half hour. Didn't mean for this to be an all-night project but I guess that's what happens when you take the half-gallon straight from the fridge. Shoulda pre-heated it on the stove first, oh well.

I'm good for whatever. I have no problem jumping on drums for a while either.
