THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I don't think I'd use a u-bolt to go around the housing. that would just hang down farther...

It seems that pretty much no matter what Bill does, its gunna have to hang down a little bit and such.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah, but I mean your gunna end up with a lip or edge. Whereas the pinion guard on the 14b it matches the contour of the bottom of the housing and leaves a nice smooth bottom with no transition :D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

please do! sick of having a welded rear.

You have a welded 8.8 or is it an 8.25 or something else? If it's a welded 8.8 w/ 4.10s my buddy might be interested in buying it off you whenever you swap it out...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

F U rain!!! I wanna finish welding stuff....

fyi, MJ and XJ leaf spring spacing is different. You'll need to cut off and reweld the perches to put an XJ-setup axle into an MJ.

Bob, I don't have one for sale but if Billy's hookup doesn't work out, let me know when you want to hit Sam's next Saturday. I have a parts run planned because I need a few things and haven't been down there in a while.

Yeah they suck, especially on a DD.

i almost think i would rather have a spool over my detroit.

idk if i have an older detroit or not. but it will spool up on corners anyway and it just feels sloppy especially when i put it into gear. and if cruising along if i go from coasting to throttle it will make a klunk.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Bill the first thing I thought of after seeing your top pic was making some kind of ring clamp. Basically a 2 piece clamp bolted down from the top like a bearing clamp then you can weld whatever skid you want to the bottom piece. You could bring it right back to the housing and then figure out how far out to go.

As far as carnage, what carnage? I had an awesome time up there. Upper & Lower W. were a good first day but beating on the hardlines in Gretchens had my adrenaline going. There were quite a few lines I would have never tried in my old XJ, including the almost 6th straight ledge that my new rig bounced up. Those stickies are retarded.

That's a good idea. Then if I tied it into the truss as well I'd be all set I think.
I'll lay out some cardboard tonight.

Those stickies were super soft. I was surprised when I grabbed a lug.
No major carnage for me. A messed up rear door (not my fault) and the rear driveshaft.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

whamo

i was thinkin about making something like that. maybe use a couple diff cover bolts and a big u bolt around the pinion area of the housing. i have never broken shafts, just exploded yokes and the axle end u joints, and every time but 1 it was the result of coming down on a rock the wrong way or knocking the cap "keepers" off previously

The flange set up I use from Tom Woods is much larger than that and do a very good job at saving the u joint. I have actually had sparks rolling off mine before. Would never run a rear without them. The front in normally a little more protected by the lower control arms so its not as big of a deal.

Yeah,I know. He was planning on welding new perches on anyway so it wouldn't be any more work than he was expecting to be doing. He just needs the 4.10 gears and IIRC he was talking about welding the one he has now so it would save him the time in doing that.

Yeah, my detroit is the same way, I even saw on their website that you can expect up to something like 90 or 120 degrees rotation of the driveshaft before it engages IIRC.

Then again even with the 5-speed the only time I ever have any issue is when I am doing slow/tight corners after decelerating using the engine (i.e. coasting down the driveway in first then starting to pull out slowly w/o coming to a stop, hasn't happened in a while so idk for sure exactly what the conditions need to be :laugh3:). Pretty much if I start going from slow coast to drive while turning it will start loading/unloading and bucking a bit

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Hey Bill, what's the place you got your trailer straps etc from again? I forget the URL...

I was spinning on it this weekend, and it didn't break :) And by the way Colin, the front axle end U-joint went kaboom before your weld, so :woohoo: for Colin!! :D

And Ross...if you decide you want to go to something other than the treps... let me know first. ;) thanks.

I had forgotten to order the rear pinion guard for my 9" and after looking at it Sun. afternoon thats one thing on the list of stuff Im ordering this week.
