:roflmao:

I'm not one to crap on people USUALLY. But man, when someone gives a dumb sarcastic remark and completely doesn't read what I posted...

Kinda pushes my buttons.

i got yo back

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

took me about 30 minutes of reading to catch up in here from 3 days ago.

Mark, I love my dd boring XJ...but, I partially agree with the guys to keep green jeep as is and wheel it, and just pick something else up. I got my 99 4.0 ax15 8 1/4 with 90k on it for $3k...there are even better deals out there, you just have to jump on them.

Colin, I know you already know, but triple check to make sure that car tent is 4 season friendly and see what they offer for the material. My crappy arse HF one didn't last long at all...freak storm, but I'd spend the extra $$ to make sure it is beefy and add extra ground anchors that are super long. There's some place in NH that makes and sells darn nice ones I saved info on once if you need it.

Bump, that's a butt-ton of vehicles...but I like your style!

Ross, hi. Stop by, stranger danger.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

quick question: does the bearing race in a XJ D44 have to be pulled and replaced when doing new bearings, seal, etc on the shafts?

Think of bearings/races as a married couple. They wear together, and should be replaced together. Is it going to grenade if you don't replace them both at the same time? No. Will it make noise, possibly cut down on bearing life, most likely.

I don't see why you wouldn't replace the races, the shafts are out, they are easily accessible, and the bearings come with the races. Kind of a no brainer.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

ken, i have really not found any good reason that the spacer needs to be welded to the knuckle. all i did was tack mine in place and th eonly reason i did that is cuz i had a 220 stick i wanted to mess around with...no pre or post heating and as far as i know it hasnt gone anywhere. u gotta figure its getting sandwiched between the knuckle and the hub and its milled to fit pretty precisley around the hub so its not like its gonna move.

if someone has a good reason to weld it please enlighten me, cuz i really am curious

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I figure it's because the inside of the cutout in the spacer ends up taking the force that the inside of the cutout in the knuckle previously did, to transfer that much force without the spacer sliding on the knuckle would take a lot more tension (and thus torque) on the bolts.

But... that could be completely utterly wrong, I'm not a mechanical engineer and never will be.

My thoughts exactly.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

hmm, makes sense. i hadnt thought of it that way

rweaver. did you notice any cracks or any bad stuff going on with the knuckles? if you do bring it back to my shop and we can weld the rest of the spacer

Hmm, not yet. I'll give her a look one of these days, if so I'll bring her up there.
