THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

so i started my new job today. when im not gunna be out on the road, i get to fab things and cut up old A/C units in his shop. Only problem i have fabbing for him is hes one of those types of people that buys HF junk, doesnt use guards/handles, and tools are just spread out everywhere.

He sounds pretty cool

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I just used solid round steel stock... I had it custom bent, worn, and rusted to look exactly like a stock tie rod for a V8 ZJ

Did you happen to have it custom rusted by a local junkyard? If so I might be interested in finding out how much you paid.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Tempting but I wanted to use .250 wall DOM for my tie rod, or at least .250 wall

Dont bother, buy premade steering. Weld in inserts are going to add $40 to whatever you end up paying for tube. I wouldn't do custom again unless I just so happen to have the tube laying around. If I were to do it again I'd go somewhere that can bang it out real quick and send it out to me.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Scott - No, it was custom rusted by someone I don't know, a junkyard near me had it in stock though.

Colin - if you see this, what's your plan for the MJ? I'll show up and help if it means I get a 4banger sooner, or even if it doesn't, I haven't pulled an engine since January now and I'm getting the itch :viking:

EDIT: yeah it was 10 bucks both times, at Everett's and Sam's (I saw no reason to put the rusty, worn out stock one back on the MJ so I picked up another V8 ZJ one and installed it while I was doing the d30 swap)

Word of wisdom on that... use stainless steel cotter pins, and use them sideways (splayed around the stud) not bent up over the end of the stud. So much easier to grab with a pair of pliers afterwards. Home Depot sells 3packs of 1/8" x 1.5" stainless steel cotter pins for under a buck so there is really no excuse for using steel ones unless you have a fetish for rust... in which case, feel free to work on my vehicles.

Too late. Only reason I really jumped on making my own was because I got all the MOOG 1-ton TREs (plus 2 spares) for a total of $100 shipped. Going to be trying to get out of work early one of these days to stop by the steel yard and see what they have on the pre-cut discount rack, or maybe just ordering a 10 ft length of the 1.5 OD .250 wall if I cant find anything around there pre-cut.

I'm just trying to figure out if I want to even consider using 3/16" wall for my tie rod (incase I find 3/16 wall on the discount rack but no .250)

Yeah, i was there for the Everetts one with a TRE puller. I was considering just doing that for steering until I saw the cheap 1-ton ends.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i just got bored and finally cleaned up my press, its been covered in soot and crap from the shop fire over a year ago. its all red and semi shiny again now. i THINK i may have even fixed the leak in the cylinder, the pressure gauge was loose. ill now use it to bend the plate for the knuckles and see if its back to full working ability or not.

I'll let you know.

Probably won't get to the drivetrain until I finish the harness. Should take me a few weeks I'll bet.

Nope

Nope

x2 on both counts.

.250" wall at minimum.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

even better is to buy the tierod and draglink from JKS, throw out the metal, and use the cardboard sleeve they come in

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

red jeep seems to have a drop in MPG's lately. it didnt take down my mileage or anything, but my last tank seemed to go quicker then usually, like alot quicker. sometimes itll have a high idle at startup so im gunna toss an IAC in it and also a new o2 sensor.
