THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

1. I wouldn't do it without countersunk bolt holes.
2. I wouldn't do it without lubelockers.

Both of which I have.

1. Duh.
2. Both the 44's have them (forgot to tell ya that, Anthony! congrats! lol)

However, for Anthony, the 44 has a SOLID cover which doesn't have countersunk bolts, and is cast so he'd have to get a different cover to do that setup

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'll try the no sway bar but it kinda sketchs me out, I mainly drive tight backroads untill I hit the highway.

oh boohoo. it's fine. i was more sketched about running SB-less on the highway... but really. it's fine. just give it a shot. you could always bolt it back on. but not if i'm around. i might cut it in half while you go out for a drive :firedevil

meh, we'll see what i end up doing. gotta get the damn thing running first. i might just copy billy's setup. i drove his and it was a lot less effort... i already have the durango box.

The people that had problems...did they use countersunk bolts? I could see wallowing if one wasn't using them.

People like vetteboy dont have countersunk holes and have experienced having the bolts loosen. loose bolts will lead to wallowed holes. thats being said, while you probably wouldnt see a difference, countersunk bolts locate the cover better but have less meat on the head. also, countersunk bolts are not ideal for applications that require optimal antifatigue properties.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

In short...Fawk mounting it to the cover ;)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

some firm springs and a good set of shocks does wonders for controlling swaybarless body roll.

and being wide and low of course

having my edelbrocks really made a huge difference, i will say.

Speaking of that, you'd be the guy to ask. Know of any stock height coils with a firmer rate?? I'd like to swap the rear springs for something a bit stiffer in the red Jeep..

Guess I could just look for some used 2" coils and cut them down? IIRC I read somewhere that when you cut a coil it effectively stiffens the spring rate? :dunno:

I don't think it stiffens the spring rate, but it would definitely allow you to get stiffer spring rates at stock height.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I didn't think so either, hence the :dunno: haha. Maybe I'll just try finding some 2" Tomkens etc and cutting them

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Or just grab two sets of stock coils, nest them, and weld them together :gee::gee::gee:

DOUBLE THE SPRING RATE!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Hmmm. I see no reason I can't skip the welding bit :D

Interesting. Makes sense now that I think about it I guess.

Don't have to mount it to the diff cover, I could always mount it on the tube or whatever, we'll see. Just something I always had in mind. May or may not put it on the D44. Might just wait until next winter.

In short...Fawk mounting it to the cover ;)

Damn now I want to do it just to spite you.

:D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

It's basically just as easy to mount it to the tube, and you don't have to worry about it? Why risk it? Other than to spite me ;)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

travis, you're right about the spring rate to number of coils thing... stiffness is inversely related to the number of coils.

so if you go from having 6 coils to 5 coils, you're about 16.7% stiffer... 7 to 6 coils 14.3%

% stiffer = 1- new# coils/old#coils

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Just ordered 120 bucks worth of welding cable... man, if I had remembered to order 15 minutes ago, it would be here tomorrow. Oops.

EDIT: Anthony, even made from the same wire i.e. cut down? That confuses me, I'll have to think about it a bit more before it makes sense to me.

I get it :D

what size?

yes it does

try cuttin some zj springs

:D

badass chart

on the whole cutting coils subject, to give you an idea of how much you have to cut off consider this: a skyjacker 8" coil (about the stiffest xj coil available) with one complete coil cut off will yeild 5.5" with a very heavy bumper & winch.
