Just a little note to catch everyone in the Sierra Chapter up with what is going on -
This year,
national did two major things to work towards chapter involvement on a local level with land use functions.
First, they enacted a 'matching funds' program, which allowed chapters to apply for, and donate up to $500 from National's bank account to a local land use cause, provided that the chapter matched that from their own funding.

Since our last donation to Friends of Fordyce (http://www.fordycetrail.org/):
on 12/12/2007
(which completely drained our bank account), we have sold a few pieces of
Swag (thanks Ben H for heading that up!) and also had a Sierra Chapter dinner at the Swamp Lake run in late august.
This year, we managed to rustle up $500 from those two 'fundraising' events, and make the matching funds. The BOD elected to use that $500 and the matching funds (another $500) to go to Friends of Fordyce again, based on the work they have been doing and their continuing need for support.
The national,
BOD also enacted a program to donate $1000 to a land use organization in each of the 10 chapters that
has.
The Sierra BOD decided to donate this to Friends of Eldorado National Forest - a group that supports land use and trail mantinence on all trails in Eldorado National Forest - including two very popular destonations of the Rubicon Trail, and the Barrett Lake jeep trail.

national's involvement with land use for 2008 can be found on the main page - HERE
I just personally wanted to thank all the members of the Sierra Chapter for being involved, and for chipping in whenever you could!
THANKS!
