I went to the Tellico crawl on fri, sat, and sun. on fri at the rock garden(lower 2) Me and my 7 month old puppy were attacked by a great dane. I twisted my ankle, sprained my knee and sprained my back in the attack. on saturday i broke down on the main trail(trail 1). As i was laying in the mud trying to fix my cherokee I counted 26 "fellow" jeepers, 24 of which were XJ's, pass me by without one single person stopping and even offering to help. I finally got her going and got it home. On sunday, I broke a sway bar and the front skide plate broke loose and jammed up my steering. Again as i lay in the mud I counted 16 XJ's pass by without even an offer to help. As I live only 10.5 miles from the Tellico park I often come upon broken down vehicles on the trails. I have never failed to stop and see if I can help. I have even let folks stay overnight at my place so they can fix their vehicle. To all ya'll that did not stop, thanks for nothing. It's not like I'm hard to see. I have a 91 4 door painted red white and blue with a 4 foot by 6 foot flag on the back. I hope the next time I help you out you remember it and help others in return.

Damn...you need to move to the Pac. Northwest bro. Up here you wouldn't have gotten any work done, you would have been to busy fending off people asking you if you needed help.

Glad you got it going.

P.S. Are you really scary looking or something.....J/k :D

Move to AZ, we supply beer when we help out, never take a payment. What goes around comes around, I have helped many people in distress, and have been helped by others myself.

Sorry to hear about the lack of "Jeepership" you experienced. One of the great things about the folks on this forum I've met from our Colorado and Moab events is that they take care of our own. Hopefully this will serve as a reminder for all of us to assist fellow Jeepers when the need arises.

On our NAXJA Rubicon trip last month, we stopped and welded up a couple of different rigs on the trail that weren't with our group, so we're used to lending a helping hand.

It sounds like you were running with yourself, and weren't a part of this event, just there at the same time. Is this true? While we always like to help others when we can, a trail leader is responsible for those in his group when leading a large group on an organized trail run. It's not always advisable to stop and get the whole group tied up in repairing someone not a part of the run. It is possible to stop and check how someone is doing, and ask for any volunteers willing to stick around and help. We've done that a number of times to help someone who was not in our group.

Were you by yourself, or with a few other friends? If you were with a couple of other rigs, I see no reason why a large group would be expected to stop and lend a hand.

I would hear from some of the XJ'ers that were in the groups that passed you before I'd pass any judgement. Sorry to hear that you had such a rough weekend.

I was at the cherokee crawl, i know that i for one stopped to ask every XJ owner i saw on the side of the trail if they were all right and/ or needed help. i guess i didnt pass you on my way in or out that day. If i had seen you i surely would've helped out. we must not have realized you were broke. Sorry about your experience.

Well...All I can say about this is, yes, we did see this guy on the trail and he did ride thru the campground but evrytime we saw him he was not broke down on the trail...I do not know what your problem was/is with us.

I am dissapointed in the ohters above who think that we would leave someone anyone for that matter on the trail broken and not ask if they needed help.

Fri. night Woody's group got stuck behind a C10 on Slickrock and we sent in some XJ to see if they were ok. After they finally got out they had to help a guy with a truck and a box trailer get back on the trail because he was about to go down a 50 ft bank...

Now does that really sound like a group that would just leave someone on the road.....

Were you the guy in the clown suit driving around? I heard about you, nobody ever said anything about you being broke down. Trust me, we stop for everyone on the trail when you're in my group. We had 2 groups that were incredibly late getting back to camp on friday and we were still helping folks get off the trail. The only way I can see nobody from this group stopping is if you were holding a gun and drinking a beer.

I believe it to be crazy that no one would stop to help from our group. Like Sean said, our group stopped and helped a non-XJ, but still a Jeeper and someone stranded. Same with others helping us, we needed a tool that we didn't have and a guy in a CJ-8 stopped and loaned us tools, I broke and used the assistance of two other Jeeps to help get me going.

I don't see why the aparent attack on NAXJA for not helping you, it wasn't our dog that attacked you, there were other Jeeps at Tellico as well that may have drove by you.

I really hope you respond to the comments here, I see you don't post much here, so please don't judge with out proper knowledge.

No offense, but what does that have to do with XJ's?

are you trying to say that you went to Cherokee Crawl and that's why you are miffed for not being helped? Well if that's so, I'd have to say that you're slightly hmm.... wrong? It doesn't sound that you were part of the official group (you had to register and so on from what I understand). This doesn't mean that you shouldn't be helped but it means that there isn't anyone that has to keep track of you. And the fact that you're in the area during an even doesn't make you part of the event.

Also the fact that you're broken down isn't always apparent. Here in SoCal we pretty much stop when we see someone broken down but when we see a vehicle off the side, we don't always stop and chat (sometimes other things control timing and so on...). In any case, as much as others should stop and help you you should also take the responsibility of flagging down help when needed, ESPECIALLY if you're on your own.

Also, as others indicated I'm not sure what does the great Dane story have to do with the XJ's.... I'm sorry to hear about your accident, but don't try to blame this on us as well....

I never saw ANY XJ...

with that description. Certainly one that was broken down. You must have been hiding in the woods when we went by. We spent 6 hours helping out three different guys that were broken down. We welding on two and then had to winch one off and then again winch back on the road another fullsize Dodge and attached trailer. Fortunately I had a winch. We didn't get back to camp until 12:30 AM the next day. I had to cancel out the next day as I was whooped! So I can't see any beef. Sounds like BS to me. Also we didn't have ANY dogs larger than 4 pounds in attendance.

I know I had a great group of people at the event that I never saw before and helped me and anybody that they (saw) needed help and makes me not happy to hear someone (BLAME!!!) a whole group. And you know what if there was someone that helped you out you would still probably BLAME someone or some group. Marcas!

"On sunday, I broke a sway bar and the front skide plate broke loose and jammed up my steering. Again as i lay in the mud I counted 16 XJ's pass by without even an offer to help"

To the best of my knowledge, no one who was staying at Crawfords even wheeled Sunday.

The only dawg we had in our lower two group on Friday (around 11a-2p) was Wes' small white pup. A few of us ran from there up 5>4 to Slickrock and as stated above, didn't get out of the woods 'till early Saturday AM. (helping others along the way)

I know of no one leading a NAXJA run who wouldn't have stopped to see if assistance was needed. Even if stopping wasn't safe at the time/place, someone would have willingly peeled off out of the group to check & render assistance.

He didn't say it was a big great dane. It could have been a 4 pounder.

ummmm Bucky.... if you get attacked by a 4 pound dog and loose there is something alltogether wrong with that picture......

Bucky, are you having trouble reading??

I think you all are missing the point here. How can any animal smaller than 4lbs be called a dog? Og.....maybe. This is from someone who raised Great Danes for a few years. ( now I got fat mutt and a Papion)
Butt honestly....I have never just passed anyone off-road who looked like they needed help or have I ever been in need of help and been passed up.
I wish we knew more about your situation...it sounds so unusual.

Heather! Did Lugnut attack somebody??? Seriously, though,Critter,we saw you when we were heading in on Friday night with that red, white and blue XJ. You didn't look broken down to us,and you certainly weren't "laying on your back in the mud" when we rolled by. If you were, how the heck do you explain the fact that we saw your face painted up like that? I,for one,did not notice the face paint,as I was too distracted by the loud paint job,and was reading the rear window that said something like "God bless our troops",or something close to that. As a matter of fact,I plainly remember you,or someone, walking around on the passenger's side of the rig,not "laying in the mud". The point is,we didn't know what the heck you were doing out there, especially with the face paint and wacky paint job. Sorry we didn't realize you were in need of assistance,as we would have surely stopped to render aid if we thought you needed it,we just thought you may have been in need of a different type of help......:D
