I don't see any reason you shouldn't

I'm all for it.......I'd want to swap in a known good motor though. It'd really suck to get that thing in and running and then on the first run out have it go kablewie on you. I say fix the knock, then have at it!

If you've not seen it, look up Jon Bejourm's XJ. (not sure if I spelled his name right) It'll make you drool!

is that the one where he put the GTO motor in the xj? I have seen that one.
And yeah I would for sure fix the knock before I put it in. If my AW4 or 4.0 gives out(I have 135,000 miles on my jeep so it may be 100,000 more miles before that happens) I might look into it. The 4.0 does fine and it reliable but there are times in the mud and hill climbs I wish I had more power. I have front and rear 60s so i think the axles will hold the power.
I was thinking the lt1, a turbo 350 or 700r4 and a flipped 300 (already sitting under the work bench)

Can't remember if Johns is a LS1 or LS2. His son has one with a V8 as well. I don't know his name......
Both rigs are showroom quality inside and out.

Here's the only pic I could find of Johns.

EDIT: Here's another. Johns is on the left, his son's (with the exo) is on the right. Second row.

There's more pics on NAXJA somewhere.

Getting that LT1 for free, you're not out a lot of $$ for rebuilding it. While you're in there, may as well stroke and bore it to 383. Also, go ahead and do a tune up and replace the water pump. Those pumps like to leak onto the cap and rotor causing all kinds of headaches with misfires and crank-no start issues. It'll be a load easier to do out of the vehicle, especially when it wasn't designed to go in an XJ...it's already bad enough in Corvettes, Camaros and Caprici.

Funny you mentions stroking it. inside joke there. I was talking to my friend and he said it needs bearings. I said hell i will just stroke it becuse strokerkits come with bearings. He thought it was funny becuse I put a 4.5" lift on my jeep becuse I needed u-bolts. Lift kit comes with u-bolts right!?!?! lol

Breaking things is the perfect opportunity to upgrade.

or excuse to. lol It will be expensive but i may do it. there will be hours and hours of web wheeling done on this subject before i will start it. I want to link the front of my jeep and lock it before I put another engine in. So it may be about two years out before an LT1 is pushing this jeep around. Hey how did that bumper work out for you? (your the guy I gave it to right?)

I don't see a problem with this logic :dunno: go for it

The stock rear bumper? That would be me. It worked out well. Although I found a good deal on a beefy rear with swingout tire carrier, so it's already off and taking up space in my garage...

So wait, John D is John Bjournum's son? HIs has a 5.3 truck motor in it and the red one has an LS1, The LS2 is owned by LS2XJ(go figure)

is that the one where he put the GTO motor in the xj?

No, that one was built by Tyler at RockSolid for a guy named Brent(LS2XJ) in Tennessee.

I think so.........maybe I dreamed that up?
I've thought that for several years too. Maybe someone was fooling with me.......:dunno:

Power to weight ratio says you are better off with a 4.0 HO...

if your talking old 350's

the only v8 my junk would ever see is an ls motor.... the ls2 in brents jeep is like 50 pounds lighter than the 4.0 and makes 400hp thats a decent change in power to weight. IMO for all the money and work to swap in a 350 there is little gain but a cool sound, your better off spending all the $$$ on a golen 4.7 and dropping it in... now that my 4.7 is running right im happy with the go pedal again

the lt1 only wieghts 35 pounds more says Novak
lt1
260 HP/550 lb= 0.47 horse per pound
4.0
190 HP/515lb=0.36 horse per pound
4.6 (stroker)
260HP/515lb= .55 horse per pound and you get to keep your trans, radiator, t-case, everthing
There is a clear winner here. We might put it in my dads YJ. its a mall cralwer so the opti spark wont hurt. I dont plan on doing anything for a while becuase the 4.0 is getting it done and it fires every time the key turns. Im just bench racing here. and doug, IF i ever did it I owuld use a turbo 350 or a 700r4 or a 400 wouldnt be too bad either. I just road in my friends jeep that has a 4.6 with an ax15. It shits and gets but sounds like a ricer. (header, 2.5" pipe and a glass pack)

if you wanted to do it cheeper you could snag an early s10 or blazer donor and run a 700r4 with a 231c case that would save you from a 500$ adapter and all the jeep sye stuff works on it
