What is wrong with the yj? Overheating? Tire? Anything else?

Sounds like an ad for Pepto:
Overheating, tire flat, broken exhaust, constipation and indigestion

lol

Mark

possible tranny/tcase issue (leaking havent got a chance to take it off and investigate
driveshaft is too long now, need to move front axle forward about 1"
overheating, needs correct radiator for the v8
high idle (may or may not be due to overheating)
needs a new tach but not critical
tire blown out, possibly replace with tube and sew tire up.

i should be able to get it together and running correctly by the fall flog heh... got a newborn on the way too so it will take some time to get this stuff completed and money...

Yep little ones can change things quick. GL with it! At least you are going to be there to enjoy the fun.

exactly. my wife knewn i was serisouly defeated after my test trip and told me what would be worse? not taking the genral or not going at all? so shes still letting me go and enjoy a camping wheeling weekend, just not my wheelin before kiddo comes home. :D

so after the test run i found a few bugs in the set up and broke a few things...go figure :D

i found out a missing bolt in the side of my transmission (holds on the shifter) 98% sure is the cause of my mysterious leak from my crossmember... found a bolt to plug it and going to check the level and prolly have to add a quart of tranny fluid when i crank it up.

cleaned the tcase and cant find any reason for a leak so the above seems to be it.

new radiator is installed tightened down and cleared of hitting stuff (will prolly need tweaking but doesnt touch anything), except for adding fluid.

just have to:
get my spare
my tire fixed and mounted
move the front axle forward about 1" to keep the driveshaft from bottoming out.

things i would like to do:
-add new rpm gauge
-get cb working again
-check shifter for D1 engage (possible problem with the slot in my ammo box cover)
-add new temp, volt, oil preasure gauges
-get softtop mounted and on
-change out tailgate to new CJ one
-touch up some paint in spots
-install dring tie-downs for cargo
-repaint/finish my tool box (i would really rather redo the hole thing and have a pull out drawer. :D

put some fluid in the radiator but couldnt get it to flow through the system and top it off because my battery was dead, so its on the charger and will get it running tomorrow.

rewired the fan back to its original setup instead of switched (changed it up last ride because of overheating issues)

fixed my gear shifter ammo box, notch it out a bit further, now it goes all the way to 1st

cut out a bit more of my cross-member to clear the driveshaft (a bit close since the new front axle install)

installed my soft top

ill post pics tomorrow of all this stuff.

as promised,

new soft top, pic isnt that great but you can see it.

and the mad max hood bump to help clear the radiator cap, its probably over kill but i didnt want it to hit it or vibrate on it...

well i got to crank it up today. ran it till it got to op temp and my fan didnt ever cut on, so i guess i messed that up, ill have to recheck everything. and i still have a high idle from what i can tell so im going to research that problem... but it ran through the radiator fine woot! no leaks :D

i need to get my v8 rmp gauge in there so i know exactly what im running at. i did alittle research on it and there are a few things i need to check or replace, one of which i already have replaced, the IAC valve, now i need to check my coolant temp sensor, park/nuetral safety switch, and probably the most important my TPS to make sure its running at .54V

You'll get it Blake. Keep at it.

i got a neighbor of mine that owns a shop bringing a scanner of his home with him so i can get some live reading off the engine while its running, going to see if there is anything hinky with it, might tell me what isnt working properly or what i need to adjust.

heck i dont want a monster truck, just give me a v8 running at stock capacity :D

IM SO HAPPY!!!!!! so Scott came over tonight with his old Snap-On Scanner and we plugged it in, had to find a VIN online for a 89 Corvette to get it setup on the scanner but after we got in it gave us all the info we needed to get it purring just right.

We had to adjust the throttle stop set screw then adjust the TPS and got it down to .54 where it should be ( was reading at around .89 way high) and then pretty much everything fell into place almost. the IAC started working right and he verified my coolant temp sensor was working properly and the idle came down from around 2000 (high) to the perrrrfect 600-700 rpm

we unhooked the O2 sensor because it wasnt right and then we found a small vacuum leak behind the head (not sure when that cracked and started leaking or i just never could hear it because of the idle), so he said I could probably put the O2 back in and it should work right but if it started acting funny to just unplug it. :D

so now i just need to drive it into the garage and move the front axle forward 3/4"-1" to keep my front driveshaft from bottoming out :D

YAY

i took a video of the engine idling but its not very good and i cant post it up till tomorrow when i have my cable to plug into my PC.

okay so here is the super excited yet totally crappy video of my v8 running at idle.

i know its dark, you can bearly hear the jeep, and im too loud and obnoxious but ill get a better video uploaded later in the daylight without me talking so much.... so sthu :D

pulled the genral in the garage tonight, definately need to add that quart of trany fluid back... didnt want to pull when in gear very well.

got the front axle unbolted, now just need to redrill the holes and put it back on and all the major stuff will be taken care of YAY!

then to get my fan wired right and the CB working again so i can talk to you guys while on the trail. and ill be a happy jeeper. for now.

good deal Blake! progress is always good :)
...i got a few things to button up on mine as well
