Team NAXJA/Petty Cash Racing stock class KOH XJ build

What shackles are you running in the rear with the relocation brackets?

I have no idea. When we used to run the relocation brackets, we each had a couple pairs of shackles sitting in our parts piles that we would pick from, every time we'd adjust the car.

We haven't been running those brackets for a long time though, and are running a homemade shackle off a homemade mount on the rear bumper now.

If you've been following along, you know that we keep breaking outer knuckles on the passenger side. After some close inspection, we discovered the inner C was cracked through and coming apart. We have had the car parked for a while because of it.

I had been trying to get Currie (who built the housing) to fix it, but they don't seem to want the business. Eventually Dallas at StinkyFab decided to tackle it himself.

The job turned out to be a lot easier than expected, and he got to use his biggest toys.

Heroic efforts to save BryanC's artwork on the front end.

Now on to the new stuff. Took a 2 wheel drive from beam, cut it up and used the end that we needed.

Dallas measured the ID of our tube and the OD of the beam, they were about .170 off. So to the lathe!

It took a lot of re-arranging tooling to make this work.

Some quick fitment testing, and then a whole lot of really hot burning.

We still don't have the trackbar, swaybar or shock mounts done (ran out of material).. I need to order balljoints, CTM rebuilds, wheel bearings, etc. Everything else that I replace anytime we take the front end apart, and tear into it.

Also rebuilding the driveshafts, gonna rebuild the atlas, and maybe try to fix the passenger door (its beat up looking).

Here's the old inner C.

Good shots of the crack on the inside.

You can see where it has been flexing and tearing the welds up on the outside.

It makes me wonder how much our trackbar setup magnified the problem, but I'm still 100% sure the cause was us being hit by another car. Gonna put it back together the same way, but with a bigger brace, and not think about it again.

Not a lot of tangible progress this weekend, but we got the trackbar mount/C brace rebuilt and in.

Trying out the new Teraflex balljoint this time around.

Adjustable preload on the lowers. Should be interesting.

New solid aluminium steering links. adds more lightness.

I am digging the front axle build . Some really cool mods here, interested to see how the teraflex ball joints hold up.

The new C looks good! Having those gussets extend down past the tube C/L should help immensely. The previous gussets look like they just created a weak spot at the thinnest part of the C.

I had thought so too, but Dallas said the previous setup was more than adequate, other than its inability to take a direct hit from another car at race speeds. ;)

well all know its the unicorns you really like..

You know me too well!

I am not going to lie, I'm super jealous of the deep unicorn love painting. its awesome. last to see that fixing the C wasn't some massive undertaking, but a one day job. I love this rig Cal !

The C was a one day job. We're still working on putting all the other brackets back on that had to be torched off for access. Should be ready to roll shortly though.

What about a gusset on the bottom of the inner C?
