Team NAXJA/Petty Cash Racing stock class KOH XJ build

Based on some comments that I've ready, there may be a difference in height between the two (2" tall and 3" tall).

A shorter functional mount would not be a bad thing for Atlas and Stak users.

I have the parts for the offset mounts on order and should have them in production in the next couple weeks. I've also ordered both 00-01 6cyl and 87-99 4cyl stock mounts to verify that they are indeed the same dimensions. I have a feeling they are dimensionally the same, but have some other differences in construction to warrant the huge difference in price between the 2 part #s. We'll know soon and will be taking it from there.

Cool thanks for chiming in

Hell I could use a -1" mount for my little '96. It would save me the need to get an SYE to get rid of the dumb crossmember drop kit.

I'll see what the differences between the late model and 4cyl mounts are. Unfortunately there isn't much room to work with on the 2625 mount that is shown here. Any shorter and there's no room for the bushing to move before things go metal to metal.

Why not use a manual trans crossmember? Isn't it .5-.75" lower mount than the auto?

I picked up a Daystar poly mount for my new jeep. I have an 01 and it is a centered mount. The new mount was shorter don't remember how much, maybe 1 to 3/4" shorter.

It did help with the atlas. I wanted something like the prototype you have there but nothing available at the time. I am looking forward to see how it holds up

you find me something verifying that and i'll order one right now....

It's the reason Clayton has two different crossmembers with their kits. Photo gives measurements too

Separate OEM part #'s too

52002328 Auto Trans.

I just did some more digging and it looks like its the 00+ crossmembers that have the .5" dip in them, not the manual trans ones.

Interesting..

or maybe both?

time to go to the junkyard i guess.

I now have a pile of various different transmission mounts sitting in my living room, lol. Just as I suspected The 4cyl and late model mounts are very similar. Bolt pattern and overall dimensions are the same, but the late model has a slight angle between the top and bottom mounting surfaces (just like the 2625 mount) but the 4cyl is parallel top and bottom. Because our mount hinges in the middle this is really a non issue for us. Also the late model mount has a big steel brace welded across the top (or bottom depending on how you look) that captures the rubber section. Again, makes zero difference for our mounts, but does explain the different prices and part numbers.

I just finished the first prototype x-member half and it'll be shipping to Cal today for testing. The section of the mount that bolts to the transmission is the same, but the shift in bolt locations did make it a little trickier to piece everything together. I think it'll work though.

Subscribed awesome build as a new member I hope to see this rig sometime in the future!!!

It looks like Stinkbug's gonna fly up with the new hardware Sunday and we'll do some test fits.

I'll make sure some beer is cold if any of you locals wanna swing by and join us.

I actually wrote up a post about it this morning, and erased it until we had resolution.

With the atlas, his mount wouldnt fit (it was too tall). The OEM mount was crushing down to make it fit.

We discussed it over a couple three beers and some bowling, and decided instead of modifying the mount and losing seperation, its better to modify the crossmember.

He's going to build a bracket where you cut a notch out of the crossmember, drop his bracket in, weld it up and it drops the tranny mount 5/8" or so, which should be enough room. I ordered up a spare crossmember shipped to his shop and should have the bracket in a week or so.

I can't speak for sure, but I believe his plan is to make that a part people with Atlas's can buy.

This XJ is definitely a bit different from most, and though I was disappointed that the mount wouldn't go in as planned I think we came up with a good fix that might actually be useful for some other Cherokee owners as well.

I have a solution in mind that should do essentially what that late model crossmember with the drop in it does. Should be a very simple and inexpensive piece that wont be too hard to install. It will require some simple cutting with a grinder and some welding, but probably much easier than trying to find that rather unusual crossmember. This might also be a good fix for those of you with some driveline angle issues as it'll drop the back of the trans a bit.

Yeah I was wondering about that. My Daystar mount is 1/2" shorter but a 1/4 shim seems to fit best

Out of curiosity, which Daystar mount do you have, the offset or centered one? The more I dig into this project the more variations I find. I literally have a pile of different mounts on my coffee table right now. No wonder I'm single :looney:
