superwinch

so in february, i bought the superwinch lp8500. it worked great for a few months, but then quit working. i called superwinch and within a couple days, i had a new winch motor sittin on my porch. installed it, and all was good. for a couple weeks. the very next time i needed my winch, i mean REALLY needed a winch, it only worked long enough to tighten the cable. now i couldn't do anything! i couldn't even let the cable out enough to try something else! so yesterday, i call up superwinch, and they say they're gonna ship a new set of solenoids and a new switch by monday.
so, my winch hasn't been very dependable, but at least their customer service has been. these guys are pretty cool, but i think if i ever buy another winch from them, i might try to get one of the better quality ones, maybe one like our dear chapter president has. mine is the very bottom of the ladder, i think.:skull1:
anyway, cheers to good customer service, however pissed i might have been that my large investment in a winch just left me stuck in the woods with empty pockets.

buy a warn.... nevery worry about winch again

jarrad (lil timmy) used to have a nice superwinch, the solenoid pack blew after a few trips.... he has an m8000 warn now

i'm gonna rock this one at least until feb.2010 when the warranty goes out. then if i have anymore problems, i'm iguana get rid of this thing, if i can afford a better winch. i bought this one for pretty cheap, and figured it would at least work till i got outta college. i almost would have rather gone without a winch and just saved the money toward a better one...

my question is this: why would you put a 2 year warranty on a product unless you are confident that it will last at least that long? doesn't that make it cost more to the company, if they hafta give me 2 for the price of one? doesn't that give your company a bad name to hafta replace it less than halfway into the warranty period? it's not like i bought a chevy or anything:rolleyes::laugh:

It's probably a oddity that yours has had so much trouble so soon. The good part is they are willing to send the parts to fix it.

Any product can have issues. I've sold several Warn winches brand new and they have had issues within a year.

Jarrad's solenoids didn't blow up, the actual motor itself did... it puked some sort of liquid (rusty colored) out of one of the terminal holes and that's all she wrote.

He got the M8000 and hasnt had a lick of trouble out of it. For the money, it is by far the best winch on the market. I have seen several do incredible things. Tim was dragging himself and Melkors Willys up Cadillac hill last year 100 ft at a time, and it never gave up. Simply an awesome winch, that's why the ranger has one now, even if I never use it, at least I know it will be reliable and ready if I ever do have to call upon it.

What Tyler and Doug said are very true. My super winch was three months old and had about three at the most four pulls on it and it craped out to the point of no return. Quadratec let me send the stuperpooper winch back and pay the difference on a warn and that my friend has been one of my better upgrades besides of course an RSOR cage! That was for you Team Willys

I'm lovin my WARN XD9000i, I gave a whole $50 bucks for it because it had bee un-reliable too. The PO, a local wheeler and friend of mine had nothing but issues out of it every time he used it. Turns out someone, most likely the factory, had overtightened one of the motor terminals and twisted the connection in two inside the case and it was causing a intermittent connection. I repaired that and it has done well for me.

my superwinch did the same rusty fluid puke mentioned above! that's a factory defect, where it collects rain water, that they supposedly fixed now. anyway, that's the reason they gave me a new motor, and said it shouldn't do that again. then the solenoids. it's under warranty, so i'm definitely gonna call them every single time it craps out. i payed more for the winch than i did for the jeep i bought it for...

There is a reason they say GO WARN or Go HOME! I have an M8000 that I know has been on 3 different rigs. One of them competed some. See Tyler there are some things I like!

yeah, i guess i'll go home till i can afford a warn then. i'm not lookin to buy a $1000 winch right now... maybe when i'm 50 and my house is payed off, and i'm still drivin this same jeep to keep from having a car payment. it sucks that there is nothing worth having unless you hafta deplete you retirement fund to buy it.:(

I paid $600 for my winch and bumper with synthetic line. You dont have to spend $1K to et a warn. Hell the M8K is only $400 - $500 depending on where you get it.

yeah, but it was a big deal to spend $300 on the one i got. i'll deal with it for a little while. i bet somebody would give me something for someday, and i can put that toward a warn. right now groceries are more important.

You are correct sir. That is why I still have 4.10's....

ooooooook. i FINALLY got my winch parts from superwinch. they didn't charge me anything, but the parts look used! the switch has mud on it, and the cables are dirty, and the plate with the solenoids mounted to it is bent. i'm gonna put it on the jeep tomorrow, and if it all works, cool, but i'm a little skeptical about how long it's gonna last. the thing is, the old parts always seemed to work just fine until i REALLY needed a winch. what do you guys think, aside from get a warn or go home?

so, on further inspection, this looks like they sent me factory rejects that got f'd up in transit or something. the small ground wire is frayed, and one of the wires is frayed and has been spliced with just black electrical tape. should i call and raise some hell, or should i just be glad i got what i did, and try to make the winch work with what i have?

I found my Warn M8000 for $300, and it had only been used one time, Jarrad found it for me and I bought it the same day. I had to take it off of the guys jeep, but it was well worth it for half price.
