i have a bemper with 2 D ring recovery points and im not sure they are sturdy enough. i was wondering if i should put a couple welds on the bumper to the unibody of the xj? wouldnt that make sure the bumper would stay there if im being yanked out? or should i just take the bumper completly off and weld on another tab of 1/4" steel further back and make a few more bolt holes? i have pics if needed if that helps...

I welded my JCR bumper brackets to the Crok plate. It ties into 6 more bolts, 3 for the steering box, one big one, and 2 for the sway bar. You can make one similar to go on the other side.

Welding it to the unibody may be ok, but if you get hard pulls, might rip off sheet metal, and taking it off for any reason means cutting welds and clean up time that isnt necessary if you just extend out the current bracket.

got any pics of the croc plate? not sure what your talking about?

Yes, just using the stock bumper mounts WILL cause a problem on a hard pull, and welding to the sheet metal probably won't help much. You need good bumper reinforcement that can also strengthen around the steering box. Look into the JKS SBS (use both sides) or see what other people have done.

i need pics to really look at things, you got any pics showing how i can weld on extended mounts to my stock bumper mounts??

This is what Richard was talking about.

This is what I did. Used grade 8 hardware and 10.9 grade metric for the stock holes.
