Springfield XD jammed up while cleaning.

Thought I'd throw this out for you gun guys. XD .40. I had removed the slide for cleaning. Cleaned gun. Slide release was inadvertantly pushed back down while cleaning. Replaced slide and when it got about .75 inches back from normal resting position it froze up. Thats when I noticed the cleaning release had been pushed down.

Right now it will not slide forward or back (short of hammering I guess).

Is it time to send it in, or does anyone "know a trick"?

Take the thing apart. Make it lickit clean. Oil it lightly & put it back together.

Its a .40, not a .45:D

Not sure if that matters at all, but I dont think its the same design as the regular 1911s.

If you don't know wtf you're talking about, maybe you should stfu.

In Case I wasn't clear. When I said it was a XD .40, that means its a f'in .40 caliber XD, not a 1911 in .45. UNDERSTAND yet?

And in case I wasn't clear on the problem...The slide WONT move. So short of a friggin sledge hammer, do you have some advice, or just want to be a wise ass?

Its not like i'm an idiot and have never used the gun before. I have shot many rounds and cleaned it many times. It was a simple mistake of pushing the slide release lever over while cleaning it and i didn't notice when I slid it back in.

you should be avle to rap the back of the slide on a counter top or desk/bench and it lodge free. have seen a few do this and get a gentle coaxing to come back apart. never did see any of them damaged due to it, but it goes without saying to look really closly before you put it back together.

Yeah, I went as far as trying a plastic hammer to drive it off. It just seems to be getting tighter and tighter...making me nervous about breakage.

I think I will mail it to Springfield. From what I have read elsewhere, it is a common problem and they will take care of it...no problem.

hmm i have a .45 xd compact. Now you have me worried. I am not sure exactly how you did it from the discription, it seems rather hard to do in my mind just imagining it .... i am to afraid to go through the motions and see what you did. I know it was an accident i am afraid to "try" it on mine. 6 months and about 1,500 rounds. No problems so far for me.

Before sending it in ... (i think it costs about $100 to ship a gun, total ripoff), maybe jsut go to your local gunsmith or dealer.)

I agree with just taking it to someone local. It shouldn't need to be something it needs to be sent in for repair. I bet that mistake happens a lot from Californians. :D

I just did it to mine and hit it with my hand and it came back appart. I didn't really try to get it jammed up though.
