...sorry...another build thread...

no mud flaps on the pickup? really? like a fix it ticket or something else?
i better make some mud flaps

yeah on the pickup with the giant fiberglass flairs that cover "almost" all of my tire. they weren't good enough for the fuggin douche.

fix it ticket.

I put some on mine, they look kinda gay but no fix it. nicestinger btw.

got some work done on the willys. all rear bushings where shot, super falt , shot leaves, and terrible shackle angle. some rear steer for sure with shot bushings and super long shackles giving leverage.

bushings are ruined:

terrible old shackle angle:

new fixed shackle angle:

still netted about an inch of lift in the rear even when i dumped the shackles.

went with rough country 2.5" leaf packs.
caster is crap up front. its +2+3 when i need it -6. i got some 6 degree shims to put it back to say -3 which is better than where its at .

wheel spacers for willys
they need to be put on a lathe and turned to clear the hubs up front.

built a drag link theother day. .250 wall DOM. weld in bungs, heims. super beefy. had to pull thebox to drill out the pitman arm. knuckle was easy as pie.
steering is tight.shackles and bushings are tight. caster is crappy.
the new 2.5" rought country leaves should help withstability, but they made caster worse due to being raked.

Been working on the Darn willys a lot, and had to pull the front axle apart on the XJ to install lock right/open carrier stuff. its still apart right now.
i actually plan on getting a lot of cage work this weekend if i can get lucky and make some time to finish the front end.

i plan on getting a Ruffstuff ford 9" truss for the rear very soon as well.

so yukon just started making 5.13s for the HP 8.8 reverse cut gears that i can use the HP 9. the 30 doesnt go past 488 so im looking at one of these for the next 6-12 months at some point(of course ill truss it, sleeve it, and gusset the knuckles)

its about 5k$ cheaper than building a damn HP9" front.

bigger shafts, bigger housing, bigger full case locker, bigger ring and pinion, and deeper gear selections.

only downside is keeping the 30 outers, but thats fine with me. still way stronger than the 30.

plus i can always swap in WJ knuckles down the road and be good with brakes and still retain the 5 on 4.5 the entire time. kinda cool. plus building an actual 44 would be no less than 4500 from all my build sheets ive been running, so 2500$ seems like a steal...

no way?

looked it up. you're right. that kinda sucks. i guess I'm better off keeping the HP 30 , unless i want deeper gears, bigger ring and pinion, and a bigger housing. other than that, i think waiting for a HP44 or a front 9 is probably worth it.

How much would it cost to build a front hi9?

It gets up to 7K really fast.

yah thats the part that sucks. A 7,600$ front is worth more than my entire jeep as it sounds, into just one part .
it makes me just want to wheel the damn 30 and fix it when it breaks. Which is actually what i was planning on doing anyway.
I could not justify 7.5k on just a front end.

those front ends don't even make sense. i could buy a built crawler for 7k.

actually for those prices, i will run my 30 until i find a part out rig with a built front end, from either a TJ, XJ, Yj, etc that way i can part a rig out, and get a free , built , front 44, 9 or 60 that way. i just cant justify spending 7600$ on a front end when i can buy an entire jeep for the price and sell the rest. maybe get an atlas out of the deal.

i have no idea. i just cant help it. im so addicted. plus the hi 9 will be a longer build and more expensive. i got some ten factory chromos last night for a deal so i figure truss it and call it done for now(truss is 159$ but you have to but mounts separtely), then start building a better front. the 30 will probably hold up for a few more yeadrs id say...
Sorry to say but 35's with 5.13 or higher you would really have to be careful with it. I've seen 44's with 35' s break easy. Take it easy u should be ok.

ah good call. too much torque or something or are you talking about ring /pinion failure?

are we talking shafts, ring and pinion, or what ?

im not worried about shafts, i expect to break those. not too worried about ring and pinion either but it would be good to know. I've been fine on 35s for the last 3 years, of course even though i take it very easy on the skinny pedal for the most part- just went nuts on the 30 and went back to HP so I'm thinking 37s should be fine...
out of all the other rigs I've wheeled my current grey XJ has the most throttle response and torque in the rocks. I've driven a handful of other XJs recently, so i guess i can stay on 4.88s for a while...
