...sorry...another build thread...

Keep me in mind when you start tearing it apart. I could use some stuff for trail spares.

yeah of course. whatcha looking for ?

Alternator, and fuel pump for the trail box for starters. I'm sure I can think of more stuff.

yeah I was thinking about taking the pump too. If I pass on it, its yours.

alternator should not be a problem.

Jon already had a decent 2dr xj a few years ago that he planned on keeping, then got rid of. I think he has something against 2 door xjs and doesn't want them to exist anymore after he has hold of them. Hahaha.

so the trackbar heims are shot ...again. I lost count but at this point I am disappointed with my fab work and with ruffstuff heims. I am pretty sure both suck . And my XJ is a death trap.

Toe is in 1/2"- F that.

driver side heims are shot on the LCA.

if that doesn't fix it I am going to buy a F250 and a trailer and call it done....

thats what I found before going camping. took the MJ . that needs steering and stuff too but At least it can go 60mph

Edit:

Just ordered a set of FJ JMX 1.25 heims for the driver side LCA
a set of FK JMX 7/8 x3/4 heims and ditching the 7/8 x7/8th heims
ordered from Ruffstuff:
5/8" FIXIT weld washer
5/8" grade 8 bolts
7/8 to 5/8 misalignments

shoot. I should have ordered 3/4 to 5/8 misalignments.
crap.

Picked up a 2001 WJ 4.7 for the GF on friday. 110K, 4" lift, winch bumper, quadra drive, factory posi front and rear, 33s.
after fixing a ton of crap on it, its a pleasure to drive. the creature comforts are amazing. My death trap XJ is bare bones and taking the doors off is about as comfortable as it gets.

anyway, 33s were bald, rotting, cracking, and 10 years old and lost a valve stem driving home. F that.

picked up some JK take offs, 255/75/17s on saturday, brand new, for 150$, swapped those
replaced the trackbar heims after going to RS on saturday,
replaced 2 broken exhaust manifold studs on the driver side - that sucked-
welded some exhaust hangers up,
spark plugs(pass pass is a PIA on the 4.7...)

changed oil and filter,air filter,
bled brakes,
fixed a pass side rear door lock - was not locking-
and a lot more.

its driving great but it needs shocks badly and a few other things.
probably be a great camping rig and snow rig, and if she decides he doesn't want it ill throw an atlas and one tons under it.

its getting royal purple in the tranny, diffs, PS, and fresh mopar tcase fluid for the 247, tranny filter, new paint, new hatch struts, hood struts, all new brakes, and some other odds and ends.

Onto the XJ:
I then swapped out the trackbar heims for the FK heims- I have to drop a coil to access the frame side bolt, set toe in, and changed out the driver side LCA heims for FK heims.

nice looking ride

Thanks. I dig it. Her Jetta is almost done so we needed something for now. Ive always wanted a WJ

Love the wj, wife's is an 01 as well. Nice to drive a jeep that feels like it's got some power now and then too.

The power is better now with the smaller tires, tune up,and fixed exhaust leak at the manifold. I was impressed with the MPG coming home . I divided miles /gas (topped off when we left) after we topped off again at home and it was roughly 17mpg. Not bad for a v8 on 33s thats always in 4wd. My XJ and MJ get around 13.5-14mpg. I am hoping after all the fixes I've done it will get closer to 18-19mpg for freeway. I am sure the city driving will be crappy mpg.

just had DW happen on the WJ. going to continue to diagnose it. The only play I can find is in the steering box.

Threw the new driver Side LCA heims on the XJ the other night and the new trackbar heims.
it was a very noticeable difference just pulling out of the garage how much tighter everything felt.

Steering got better but it still does a snake-like - S sort of drive down the freeway, picture a snake slithering through sand, that cyclical S track it makes. Thats how it feels driving down the road.

I put toe at like 1/16 toe in from about 1/2" of toe in.

its like its constantly correcting back and forth. I am sort at a loss? I just want it to go straight like it used to before the damn RAM assist went on. Now the assist is gone and the steering is still kinda funky.

I plan to replace the other heims as well, probably more FK JMX - but at 72$ each its not cheap.

drag link and tie rod heims still seem good.

It sounds like your thrust angle is off (rear end alignment).

Check for bent leafs or a messed up leaf bushing.

yeah thats kinda what I am leaning towards too. Ill check that out. its like the rear is pushing the thing back and forth.

Or pushing it off to one side, so you're constantly correcting.

Picture 101 wheelbase on one side and 102 on the other, if it helps the mental image.

Im pretty sure wheel base is off side to side. like 100 one side and 98 on the other, or something like that.

I remember taking a tape measure to it at one point, but I remember the leaves being the same lengths side to side and everything measuring up right in the rear. Ill check it all again.
