...sorry...another build thread...

so. I have no steering at all. Cant turn the tires at all with the tires on the ground.

any ideas?

oh ya, I Did hydro assist.

tapped the box. tapped my spare AGR box too. Ended up screwing up the pitman shaft on the j20 box and the input shaft seal on the AGR box. between the two I made one good box(used the input from the j20 on the AGR box)

Turning with the tires in the air is easy.

originally could not even turn on jackstands. flipping lines on the cylinder did the trick to at least turn while on jacks.

also note, do not drill out your PS fitting for the hi pressure side. I lost all PS when I did it. Went back to a regular fitting , non drilled, and it still doesn't work. Swapped a few pumps in that I had lying around, nothing worked yet

plan is to swap another pump, pull the cooler out of the system for now, flush the lines . If that doesn't work the box could be toast. man.

no "whine" from the PS, just wont turn the tires all.
I did break the tiny little nub that is on the worm gear that feeds into the inpu shaft stuff. no idea if that thing really makes a difference since I lined up the shafts right anyway.

cut down 2 taps:

this thing rocks:

Called agr . So the tiny nub I broke on the worm gear is a big deal. I need to pull the box and replace the spiral worm gear. That should be it hopefully. They would charge 225$ to build and tap a new box and do a bunch of great things internally to it.

Drilling the fitting is unrelated to your problem FYI. Mines drilled, wife's wj is drilled and they both work just fine. Maybe I'll stop working 7 days a week and get mine back together.

I pulled the box off today and pulled it apart. its got a lot of metal coming out. tried to replace the worm gear and its a no go. it doesn't like the other worm gear. wouldnt turn with that worm gear. so screw it. going to get another box . probably just go with an AGR box that is already ported just to get the rig back on the road. or might order a j10 box on rock auto and tap that and pray I don't ruin a 3rd box. the good news is, I learned a lot. I learned that I am terrible with steering boxes. I could have sold the AGR box, the j20 box, and not bought the rebuild kit, 4 taps, OTC spanner wrench kit and just bought a already tape AGR box. oh well.

pretty sure I went way bigger than 1/64.

actaully lost all steering before i pulled the box, but after i drilled the fitting. maybe went too big on the hole. but now that i have the stock fitting back on and no steering and tons of metal coming out, I am pretty sure its all fubar.

I plan on getting a new box already ported and a new pump, and calling it done. pretty sure the mixing and matching between the AGR box and the j20 box did it in, and possibly i screwed up the pump too.

I did pull the pass side door off tonight. getting ready for half doors.

I went 5/32" on both. They seem to work very well. We will see what happens when I add my ram assist. I tapped the box I run now as well as the one on my old waggy without disassembly. Went slow, used cutting wax and a vacuum to catch as much as I could and rinsed it out. Both boxes worked fine afterward.

finished pulling off the doors, put an old cj5 mirror on it real quick, installed longer prothanes, replaced pass side caliper and gravity bled, and cleaned up the giant mess of a garage so I can find tools now.

you need a new potato

LOL

AGR box and pump all built for my ram setup should be here in like a month or less. j10 box on tues. slap that on and wheel like that until the AGR stuff gets in.

please let me know if the high flow fitting on the pump is bigger than stock and if the resi is bigger than stock. after doing some reading I found that there seem to be no differences between aftermarket pump internals vs. stock. but they didn't mention reservoirs which will make a nice difference if it's bigger

doesn't come with a res. and Ill let you know on the fitting. From what he said, there are 3 different internals for the TC style pumps. I want to go to pnp and grab a WJ reservoir to see if it fits.

You probably already know this John, but just in case...I just changed one of the pressure hoses on my daughters '04 WJ and found out it has metric fittings on the pressure hoses. I know my '91 has sae fittings on the pressure hose. So can they interchange? And I must say, having that pump-to-fan then fan-to-gear box on the WJ's pressure hoses makes it soooo much fun to replace those pressure lines without removing half the front end. :gee:

hacked together garbage 1/4 door with 6x9 took forever too to build. Built a .75 square tube subframe in it.

driver side will be more like a half door and I still need a PS pump and box in. box comes tomorrow. going to try to warranty a AZ PS pump until the AGR pump comes in.

Really bad DW.

Toe is in 1".
Cant adjust tie rod on the rig since the driver side Jam nut wont come off even with a massive 5 ft pipe and tons of MAP gas. So ill pull it off and adjust the pass side only out.

going to toe it to 1/16 to 1/8 out and see what happens.

Also have a very bent to hell rim on the pass side. going to swap that tire.
