if i can get away from work i'll probably come, but since i'm pretty much a stocker (at least for another few months) i'll mainly watch or maybe hitch a ride and try and learn a thing or two.

i'll probably bring a camera and shoot a boatload of digital video unless there are any objections.

stockers are good too, make sure you have front/rear tow points tho.

I was looking through the Johnstone catalog at work the other night for bus heating solutions. I ran across a fan that you mount on a garage heater like the type you have. The fan kit was about $70 and I though it might be a nice solution for your hot air circ problem.

As for my bus I was thinking about something. My bus still has the under seat heaters front and rear. There is also a circ pump under the hood. If there were a way for me to heat water enough to run through the under seat heaters I would be set. Problem is, I don't know where I could get a water heater with enough BTU's but small enough to easily conceal.

I think you wussies should just stud the walls with 2x4's, wrap the outside with tyvek, stuff the wall with R-13 owens corning glass, and throw some 3/4" sheetrock up....

replace the cheap bus windows with either marvin or andersen.....

a skylight and track lighting wouldn' hurt.

put in a flagstone hearth for the trip to attica without the kids.

bob, I've seen those fans for my heater, they sell them at TSC as well, the biggest problem is that it requires 110, (I really want 12v) which in the middle of the woods doesn't do me any good. I've kept the rear under seat heater as well, it's the only way to keep the thing warm while on the road. I still think I'm gonna keep my eyes open for an RV furnace, even if it's out of an old camper, alot of times you can pick up something (whole trailer) from the 70's/80s pretty cheap.

B, already have in the works a full glass sun porch, sky lights to span the length of the bus, decided to go 2x6s so I can get an R19, oak planks for the walls and using 1/2 logs for the outside so it looks like a cabin, and the windows will have to stay stock cuz I spent my remodel money on the tile floor.

What about an inverter? About $40 for a 400W model. Should be enough to run the fan. I have two inverters on my bus. A 2kW for the microwave and refer and a .4kW for my laptop that I use for GPS. If you go the inverter route then you have 110vac on the road as well as in the boonies. With dual batts you can run them pretty long before discharge. I wouldn't think it would be a whole lot different than running a 12v fan. I was just thinking then you could use what you already have and save a bit of hassle. But, dual RV heaters would be nice too.

As far as being a wuss, yes I'll admit it. I've slept out in the cold, I've roughed it for many years (I was in a tent so not as rough as you've done it) :shiver: :rattle: . When you have a bus why in the hell would you go out of your way to be miserable? Just to show everyone what a man you are? What are you trying to compensate for? I can't get a good night sleep when I'm in one of those mummy bags. I also don't sleep well when I'm freezing my ass off. And when I don't sleep I'm a crabby a-hole. So shove it in your blow hole!

When I was an OTR driver I had a 1000W inverter that ran a fridge, microwave, coffee pot, Playstation, 2 burner hot plate and TV that was continuously on and the only time I needed to turn it off was when it was below 32 degrees and I wasn't in the truck for more then 3 days. They do have a safety shut off switch on most of them now that will shut down when the battery gets drained to a certain point.

how long is 'pretty long'? Honestly I haven't had any experiance with inverters. I'd hate even more to be stuck with dead batterys.

once you get into a qulaity sleeping bag appropriately rated, the outside temperature is MOOT!

How long the batts would last depends on the type of battery and how much load is on the inverter, also how much loss there is in the inverter. We had the fridge run all night and there was no problem at all starting up in the AM. Running the refer in the camper over night set at 12VDC with the campers deep cycle and the Jeeps batt caused completely dead batterys. If you run a fan on 12VDC you'll be draining at pretty much the same rate. I have one of those jumper packs and that will get the bus going, on a warm day anyway. A spare charged batt may not be a terrible idea. Plus if you have the Jeep along there would be no problem jumping the bus if needed.
