So Cal desert rats

Hey Aaron 1, when you put your mech fan back on, what did you do with your transmission cooler. I have mine almost exactly like yours and now the fan blades and shroud are in the way of the hoses. Not much wiggle room down there either!

I had to ditch the fan and put the cooler in front of the radiator. We tried to find a place to put it with the fan but it just wouldn't fit.

I'd feel like I didn't do all I could if I don't mention Your amp draw. Have You calc'd Your amp draw including Your lights, off road lights, cb, charging system, aux fan and these new fans? Your alternator may not be able to keep up which could keep the charging system from doing it's job. A high amp alternator would fix it, if its a problem. Just a thought.

Oh shit!

did a little bit of mild wheeling out in anza borrego today. ran through the mud-caves, down diablo drop-off, out to the wind caves, then back up the drop-off and home. 5am-3pm front door to front door.

snapped this out in the desert. how do you people deal with it?

I'm sure your temp sensor was under the influence... :looney:

Today was 106*... 8* here... down there is usually close... maybe a little less.

You go solo ??

Curt

110* on our patio. :) How do we do it? Well, we have AC, wheel at night, and if we don't spontaneously burst into flames, we have a Great winter.

yes, Im sure being baked in the sun all day had some effect on the sensor.

It was supposed to only be about 102 out there, probably go up to 110 though.

I went with my Dad and a friend of his doing some geology research for a masters degree, they took his stock XJ to the top of diablo drop-off, hopped in, we ran down to the wind-caves, checked those out, ran back up, explored the mud caves, and then rolled out.

So I took the 86 from airport to the 10 and to washington at 65-70-75 with a little head wind and 105 ambient. The temp got to 228.2 bounced to 230 for a split second and back to 228.2. ( when I punched it from 70 to 75). Those number make me smile! After a week ago when I was hitting 240 on the way home! Mind you it was 110ish but still I am really happy right now. On the way home, with the wind and slight downhill I was at 222-226. After getting off at golf center, by the time I was back at my house less than 5 mins I was back in the teens at 217. I can live with these temps!

Curt helped me with some holes in the crossmember last night so I could relocate the tranny cooler.

It hangs down about 1/2 below the front crossmember but I am gonna fab up (with some help) a mini skid to protect that.

Thanks for your help curt!

do you have room to sneak it behind there? i'm about to go through the same thing, i think i may have to cut my bumper brackets off and weld them back on 3/16" farther apart per side for my frame stiffeners. wish i did those first.....

cut radiator supports, hook up come-along to each unirail, ratchet until it fits :D
i'd cut the bumper, that plate will help distribute the load some i would think. i buckled a little bit of my unirail on one side from bumping rocks, wish i had them sooner.
