Re: Snow Run?

i still dont know which way to go to get there though, just to get to georgetown...

Re: Snow Run?

yah dude 95% sure. eBay closed the doors here in sac last week so I am taking a small vacation before i start a new job. and so are we starting at uncle toms or georgetown?

Wow, I totally didn't realize eBay had an office in Sac... is that the building I met you in front of? Sorry to hear about your job though. I'm in "transition" as well... and quite frankly, I'm stoked!

Re: Snow Run?

im not sure where its at. who has actually been there? whoever has been there should probably be the one telling us where to go!

I've been to Uncle Tom's Cabin a couple times, but it's been a while! A friend of mine thought the road might be plowed on a regular basis, so hopefully somebody will chime in that's been more recently. If not, I'll post on another board for advice.

Re: Snow Run?

even if it is plowed there are so many places up there to go and get some wheelin done. I dont think we will have a problem. And yah billy that building you met me at was an ebay data center. they moved it to utah, and I turned down the job there cause they werent offering enough money for me to uproot my family and go. I have a couple things going out here in march and I got a sweet ass severence and bonus when i left so I will be good for a bit. I am not in any hurry. I will call some friends of mine that live in georgetown an see if they plow up to toms. I believe they plow to icehouse road cause thats what the sign says when you get to icehouse and wentworth.

Re: Snow Run?

Someone asked earlier about rig requirements. My XJ is lifted 3.5" and has stock skids under the TC and the gas tank, but otherwise it's pretty basic. It is sitting on 31's with good A/T tires. I would be interested to hear whether people think this is worthy of the trip.

Shameless plug: BTW, my rig will be for sale because the wife insisted I get something newer. With bun warmers for her... Come take a look if you're interested - very clean '88 with good paint and no body cutting or damage.

Re: Snow Run?

alright, so there is more than just checking out a cabin right? theres a bunch of wheeling up there? otherwise id say we should try sly park road. what do you guys think? or is there some good wheeling at uncle toms area???

Oh yeah, there's plenty of good snow wheeling up there! At least as good as Sly Park. Plus... Uncle Tom's Cabin is a bar... if you weren't aware!

Rig requirements: Front and rear tow points and a fire extinguisher!
I would also recommend: A tow strap or winch, a spare tire, a CB radio, and warm clothes (two pairs of everything per person).

Anybody think of anything I forgot?

Re: Snow Run?

Re: Snow Run?

blondjon havent you been up to hell hole area? if you have uncle toms isnt very far from there. I know of a few decent trails as long as they are not gated off.

Re: Snow Run?

That's what I'm working on today, since I only have a rear tow point as of right now!
Billy
im in the same boat. i have front tow hooks in another xj, but the PO welded brackets to them to extend the bumper out like 3 or 4 inches. looks retared, but he hit a deer and it actually did no body damage what so ever. but the brackets arnt tweaked so i might just run those for the trip

Re: Snow Run?

I would recommend meeting in Georgetown. Last chance for food and fuel. Then drive to Quintette, ~4100 elevetion. Not far past Quintette you drive into the Blodgett forest. This is where the road is no longer plowed. Snow level will most likely be there so expect snow there.

Several miles to Stumpy Meadows and then a few more miles to Uncle Toms. The sign is up for the turn off so you cant miss it. Nice place for a cold beer and to warm up. Plenty of snow wheelin up there. Depending on snow conditions you can drive all the way to Ice House Rd and to Loon or back to US 50.

yeah me and my son were going to give Stumpy a few hours of fishing. Stumpy is so pretty this time of year, the view is worth the trip alone.

Re: Snow Run?

ok, i have a rear tow point on my 2000, front skid plate 4" lift on bfg at's 33x10.50's... does my front sway bar count as a front tow point? =) if i have a steady income until the 20th i think i can make the trip, just requirements are my only issue (ive had to use my sway bar once before and seemed to work out fine.) i also have a spare a tow strap, an 8k lb come along, 5/16 20ft chain and i have a CB but im not a 100% it works, seemed like i couldnt get it to work... but i have 2 2-way walkie talkies =)
