It takes me like ~4 hours from sacramento to get in the area. How far is reno from sac? 2.5 hours ? I would imagine towing at 50 mph would slow you down sunstantially though

that all depends you can go faster then 50 if you have the equipment to do so.

Bummer, I'm gonna miss this one. Too close to a family trip. I am going out to the area with my friends mid july, I don't think we're going to do dusy or swamp though.

Ershim Lake - Hike to the top of the hill west of the lake. Verizon and AT&T seem to do the best, Sprint if you're lucky, all others unknown
Parking lot in the sky - same as above.
Additional fire and camping information:
There is no camping within 100 feet from lakes, streams, trails and meadows. Campfire permits are free and available at your local Forest Service office. A campfire permit is required for: wood fires, charcoal fires or portable gas stoves.
Clothing, keeping warm, etc:
We will be at some very high elevations- it can get extremely cold up there at night, even in the middle of summer, especially in the night. Have adequate clothing for you and your lady, long johns, ,maybe consider a good wool blanket or two in addition to good winter sleeping bags, not a slight weight summer bag, its been a much wetter year than normal. Down at base camp it wont be nearly as cold at night, so those missing the dusy portion of the trip still need to be prepared as well, but it wont be nearly as high of elevation. I mean if slick rock can into the 30s in the middle of summer and its only at like 7-7500 ft, we will be around 10,000 ft +.

This. On one July weekend about 10 years ago, my brother and I wanted to beat the heat and do some camping. It was at least 90 degrees that day at about 8,800' and over 105 degrees in the valley. We only brought a couple of blankets and were in shorts and flip flops. It got so cold that night I thought we were going to freeze to death. Nearly ran out of gas from running the jeep all night. I had a hell of a crick in my neck from being the little spoon. Next morning there was a couple inches of ice around Brewer Lake. On the bright side, our remaining 12-pack was ice cold.

I wanted to make sure people realized that even though its the middle of summer once you get that high up - It doesn't matter. Your reply really reiterates how being prepared for cold weather could turn a potentially dangerous trip into a comfortable good time.
I am bringing my winter bag and extra blankets and long johns for night time just in case.

I have a dutch oven too now! Not sure where it came from but it appeared in the garage a couple months ago :dunno: I'll surely bring it and we can have a cook off! I'll bring it to Reno as well to break it in.
