I am planning to try this trail this summer and wanted to know if there are any equipment requirements to do this. Right not my XJ is stock other than about a 3-3.5" lift and 31's. I've got front and rear tow points. I just want to see if I need to start saving for anything else.
Thanks!

I have never run the trail before but it is in the Charles Wells Nor Cal book. I would suggest picking that up. Order the spiral bound from his website, the soft backs sold in stores tend to fall apart.

I have passed the trail head on my way to mountain bike the Cannel Plunge trail, it looked like it started out with a very long steep climb. There are not too many people out that way either, I would defiantly not go alone.

I would say at least 2 or 3 vehicles.

A guy can do A LOT with 31" tires and recovery points. Air them babies down, disco the sway bar, apply hand brake when needed, pick good lines and take your time. Get rocker protection and you will be amazed at where your Jeep will take you.

Thats my kind of motto, although I do regret not going a little bigger on my Jeep BUT with armor and a tow points you can always get un stuck. Might suck a lot and waste tons of time being stuck but its better then braking something in my opinion.

Not to hijack this thread, but build to the budget, I guess. My first XJ was on 31's and I had a blast with it. My current XJ was built on an open budget and I'm happy with the moderate results. My next rig will be freaking HUGE...if there is gas left and enough trails remain open!

Now, back on topic...that bike trail looks great. I'd love to give it a try.

Thanks for the info on the trail. I was thinking about saving up for a front Aussie locker just to make sure. I've got F/R recovery points so that part is good. The other jeeps will be built about the same so it should be a bit of an all or nothing. As for a bike, I'd have to bring the dirtbike. I quit pedaling 3 years ago because the desert doesn't go by fast enough when I pedal :). The trail does look good though, my friend lost his derailer mount on that one.

On a side note, possibly making a run to McIver's cabin this weekend with another jeep and an exploder. Not a difficult trail, but it should be a fun drive.

This is a pretty easy trail. Do to the fire some years back, the roads were graded and are not much more than a dirt road now. It is scenic (albeit half the trail is still burnt dead). We have stock vehicles in our group go on this trail.
Due to all of the snow, I would bet this trail won't be open till around July.
