Bought the intake kit from rustys today, had too get new flex bushings so i thought id get my moneys worth for shipping cost and threw in the intake kit...
anybody have the kit?
does it work good?

Send it back and I'll sell you the air tube for $20, I have one in my garage on the shelf. It's OK if you put a decent filter on the end but it's too short, you're going to suck even more hot air because it puts the filter right next to the intake/exhaust manifolds. Also, if you go mudding or romp through water you will suck water into it, for the same reason.

ok good too know. i got the throttle body spacer too with the kit only reason i got the kit was cause i alredy had 30 bucks in shipping for a tie rod and one bushing

Ha, for a minute there I was thinking it was *rusty*.

I don't know if they've changed it in the past ten years or so but I have a first generation one and the CCV hose nipple is too large.

I agree with Mike on all the other points, I only really ran it to open up some room under the hood. Occasionally I toss it back in so I can hear my engine whistle, if I manipulate the throttle right I can play Yankee Doodle Dandy.

it is what it iz. the stock box is big, but it passes smog. if you put in the rustys intake, and use the new space, how you gonna pass smog?

As long as all the proper tubing is still connected HO Jeeps can pass fine with an air tube. The Airbox being part of the equation was only valid for the 1987 - 1990 Renix era.

i thought it was c.a.r.b. legal? i read that somewhere. i could be wrong though.

Unless Rusty went for the CARB approval process, and I really doubt it, it is not. As far as I know the only Air tube with a valid CARB sticker for 1987 - 1990 Cherokees is the XJArmor tube, I'm not even sure that company still exists.

You should check out the THOR cowl intake, it uses the high pressure air from the cowl to force clean cool air in.

Its a nice setup but get ready to be listening to it whistling when the butterfly opens and closes and sucking air all the time in the cab. You get use to it over time.

I believe the EO Number for the now extinct XJ Armor is still posted on the CARB site. What you do with this information is up to your imagination.
As for the whistling, I was able to eliminate it with a K&N PreCharger Filter Warp

hey bud i just bought the xj performace package the 1 with the muffler and trottle body upgrade. it came with the airtube to make a CAI out of your stock air tube. i love it...i would never run my jeeps in water so i dont really need to worry about hydro lock or anything like that. (its a long story but funny):skull1:. anyway it all depends on your use and if its your DD. but i love the system and i dont run a box a box around it ( i know guys its not smart but i dont rly see a big diffrence with one and without one). and if u have problems they will take it right back. and as long as u keep everything hooked up and run a cat on your exhaust you will pass smog. my xj is a 93 and i smog test it and it passes.
