Rubicon Trip this Summer

Ok I bit the bullet and went ahead and reserved the group site right at the entrance to the Rubicon for Sunday Aug 12 for 1 night.

With Sierra Fest, I'm not sure what I'll be doing that Sunday... so I just wanted an easy place to post up before the run on Monday.

It says it can fit 6 vehicles and 25 people max. There are other places to park vehciles nearby so I'm sure it could accomodate anyone who wants to camp there...

It would probably be a good staging area too since it is right at the entrance of the trail.

It's Red Fir Group Campground. I added it to my trail map:

well, death wobble is gone thanks to new tires, so i should be able to go. just need to do something with my steering since it's stock still.

Ill have my Dana30Hp Locked and swapped in time, so I am definitely in.

Damn, I would love to run the 'Con again! I ran it back in '02 in my CJ.

I already have too many vacation plans this year and not enough vacation days! I will be keeping an eye on this thread though. The Aug. dates are ideal for me to possibly work into my schedule.

Wow sounds like fun! I have never 4x4 such a hard/fun trail like the Rubicon, and I love Tahoe. It would be awesome to join along and bring my Jeep; But still building my XJ up more and making it more reliable on the trail. Especially for the Rubicon. I have only had my XJ for a year now... time to get more wrenching done!! Maybe next year ya all! :-)
HAVE FUN NAXJA!

I'm going to try, but doubtful. maybe I'll just tell the wife"I'm going to go get some gas" .

while technically not the whole truth, it isn't really lying. you will need to get gas multiple times for a trip like this.:wave1:

You said "definitely", and it's in writing, so no backing out now!

I'm sure you can come up with a good excuse. How sentimental are you? If you go this year it'll be your 10 yr anniversary. That's gotta be worth something!

Okay, the dates are definite!

im in unless something happens, such as major mechanical failures or family emergencys.

You only need one fire permit per group.

Ahgg. Damn!

I NEED to run this trail one of these days.

I have been going to Tahoe in the summer since I was a kid. Have always stayed at Meeks bay watching lines of rigs coming off the trail. Its total jeep country up there.

Finally last year my kid drove the XJ up (first time I had a jeep up there).

We ran the Tahoe side in to Observation Point (pretty sure). We got to where we could get in and out pretty quick, explored all the little side lakes and stuff, it was awesome.

Couldn't get ourselves to head down cadillac hill on a solo run, worried about finding a turn around point.

This year we will be up there Aug. 19-25. Probably just playing on the backside again.

Gettin' close guys! Trip is less than 6 weeks away.
I'm pretty much set to go...though still need to find a spare rear drive shaft. Don't forget those wag bags!
