Rubicon in June

As of this moment, BenH and I will be leaving friday at either noon or 5. We are hoping that with GPS cordinates and our topo maps that we can find camp. If not, oh well.

It looks like we will probably be starting the trail at 11pm friday night. I know that niether of us will be playin, and probably just blow through the first part.

For the Con' veterans, can you show me pictures of the spots i need to look out for and possible bypasses?? We both want to get to camp ASAP.
First time ever going up the granite bowl... and you're going at NIGHT? fuuuuuun. On my 3rd or 4th time to the Con I was coming down the granite bowl by myself at night and I got out about 20 times to walk 100 yards ahead and look around. It's amazing how much more complicated it is at night.

It's going to be a little overcrowded.

Here is what I saw on toyota web site:

So what's the weather gonna be like ? Seems that every year it's mosquito city (Cal: THOUGH SHALT NOT BREAK IN MOSQUITO NESTS NO MORE!).

Btw, don't worry about the toyotathon: we've wheeled there 2 years ago when it was on and the trail wasn't too crowded, just don't expect to camp at the springs.

I'm hoping to join you guys on this run for my first try at the Rubicon. I guess I'm legal to join now that I have a red name. I'm wondering how much snow is still left up there. Last I heard there was still about 5 feet at Loon Lake. Anyway, I hope I'll be able to get the work done on my Jeep so I'll be able to meet everyone up there.

Usually the weather is nice this time of year up there, and yes the mosquitos are out in force early in the summer so be prepared. Also be prepared for some moderately deep water crossings too.

I saw some recent pictures of Loon Lake and there is still a ton of snow. Hopefully this warm weather will stay long enough for it to melt quickly. Last year I went on 2 runs to the Rubicon in June. Both times we just went to Buck Island Lake and turned around and went back out to Loon Lake. The Lake Tahoe side of the trail is usually still snowed in and will require lots of winching to get through early in the season.

Oh, and I am now a "maybe" for this run. I got my daughter's 4th birthday that weekend. I'm trying to move it to the weekend before, but we'll see how that goes.

So who all is still going on this? Im planning on taking my dad, and trying to get a couple friends to sign up too.
Trying to figure out the details, and food, and sleeping stuff. Are people going up Thurs night and camping somewhere?

I just found out I am going to be out of town with work that week, I get back in the bay area at 8pm Thursday night, So I don't think I will make camping at loon that night, I should be there at 11am friday morning!

so i found out today that i can get work off for this trip so im closer to going, just have to do a few things to my jeep to get her ready, re-install rock rails (went to the rubicon last weekend and definently wish i had them on for that), im goin to try and get some new leaf springs for the rear but if im short on time i can wait for the install on those till after the trip, few other thigns here and there, but now im stoked i can go cant wait to meet all of you guys!!

AAAHHHH! CRAP!!
i need to get a long arm system and new ball joints before the CON because i get death wobble about every 15 seconds if i dont go 25 mph or slower.
so here are my options:
A) rent a trailer and trailer my junk their with my dads tundra. (why trailer something that is road legal though?)
B) buy a long arm kit and buy it now so i can get it shipped asap. (aahh soo much money though)
C) just deal with it cause as long as i go about 70 mph the tires have enough momentum to keep straight but still get shimmies that scare the crap out of me. ( oh did i mention risk my life at the same time?)

what to do, what to do?

Order long arms NOW
Go get new ball joints and drive your Jeep there. You'll save $ v.s. towing, and your Jeep will now have long arms and drive like a cadie on the freeway. =) If your ball joints are bad changing them out helps allot.

yeah thats what i was thinkin was just to get long arms with flexy joints cause i gotta get uppers and lowers anyways so i might as well not go cheap.
i want to get the y-link but its like $950 but i know it would flex like a MOFO.
i think imma just get a custom 3 link with jonnie joints so i can remount my trac bar on top of the d 30 and get a dropped pitman arm so everything will be nice and level. with rustys tie rod conv. steering, remounted trac bar dropped pit arm, 3 link long arms. im gonn be all set!
now all i have to do is just buy it :D
