Router management software

Hey I know there are a bunch of computer guys on here. I live out in the country and have Satellite Internet. (The only way to get anything even close to high speed), any how I need to find software that will easily monitor and throttle the download speeds so that we don't go over our bandwidth. I am not computer illiterate, but not that good with it either. I have a linksys wireless router wrt54gs, and the security on it is WPA, so no outside access. suggestions???

Look into DD_WRT... open source... i personally ran it on that wrt54gs.

I've been running DD-WRT for a few years now. I also know a few people running Tomato. I suspect that either one would work, although supposedly Tomato is a little easier to work with.

Some builds support bandwidth monitoring ... some don't. My parents have a slightly different build than I do and mine doesn't have it.

If you’re using HughesNet they have a utility to monitor usage. It also has an option to give them more money when it runs out. http://services2.hughesnet.com/Tools_and_Connectivity/index.cfm I hope in the future you have more options the 700ms delay, high cost, and download limit almost makes dial-up look good.

we have Wildblue and now via sat, higher speeds are now available and we can monitor, but my wife isn't good about checking it, so I want something that will give us some more info.

DD-WRT rocks out.

tomato is slightly less nerdy.

You can setup DD-WRT to send you email reports evey day.
