Rough Country

Jason i was curious to ask about your trac bar tht comes with the 6.5" lift kit you guys sell. would i be able to run it without the drop bracket you guys sell optional?

I have a 99 xj and was wondering what exactly do I need for the 4.5 rc to work. as far as longer brake lines and weather I need a new driveline or not. thanks im new to jeeps.

I bought a 4.5" RC lift kit with AAL. It had everything I needed. Brake line relocation brackets, 1" transfer case drop, etc... The only thing I had to have extra was new wheels and larger tires! ;)

Later I contacted Jason and bought a set of 4.5 RC leaf springs. If you can afford the 4.5" kit with replacement leafs, get that. I couldn't at the time.

Just ordered a kit with rear springs, Jason's the man. Put on their lift with an older truck I had before and liked it, sure I'll like this too. Good service and turnaround.

coils are good. my leafs have sagged atleast an 1.5" after 1 year. jeep looks like crap with these leafs
add a leafs, or full spring packs?

my 4.5" spring packs have been holding up great.

heres a pic of the jeep. pic was taken on an angle but u can definitely see how bad it sags.

Not a good deal for the money, I bought the 4.5" it was missing shackles, did not tell me I had to get a new track bar, and I haven't been able to cure the infamous "DW". I thought I was saving money but I should have not taken a short cut and bought a real kit. Just so you know no RC decals will ever go on my Jeep, not impressed with the product or the company's customer service.

Did you call them? You know some times they screw up.. Did you buy the kit from J C whitney?

Yes i run the 4.5 kit on the wifes and the 6.5 on mine...I have beat the crap out of these kits, it still does 90 on the freeway with no DW..Can you ship me the kit please, since you think it is no good?

yeah mine is ripped apart and im replacing all the rc stuff w/ rubicon express. re 7.5 coils, re 5.5 leafs, re shocks, re trac bar, clayton long arms and clayton boomerang shackles.

4.5 kit doesn't come with shackles, a lift kit won't cure Death wobble unless it is replacing something worn that was causing the death wobble in the first place, and you don't have to replace the Track bar.

Their customer service to NAXJA through Jason, has been nothing less than stellar in my experience. Did you happen to call him?

It's an entry level lift kit, it gets you the altitude for a reasonable price. If you really wheel a lot you're going to replace a few of the components eventually. I got a kit, didn't go through jason and wound up with 2 different leaf packs. It leaned. I mix and matched my spring packs with my stock packs and got another inch of lift, installed coil spacers in the front and was good to go. If I had known about Jason I would have called him, but the fact is that it was a vendor error and I didn't feel like dealing with them. I eventually replaced the front coils to get taller ones, and installed long arms. At which point the RC arms made it onto my BIL's XJ and they're still there. I eventually upgraded brake lines too. But In the time it took me to upgrade everything I ran the RC kit a few years and it served its purpose. Providing elevation to run 33" tires and leaving enough money in my pocket to buy the 33s.

If you a want top of the line super indestructable perfect lift kit RC is not for you, if you want a kit that will get you up there without breaking the bank, and give you something to build on RC is just fine. And those of you who who fuss about the shocks, I'm still using them on Longarms and they work just fine (smoother than the bilsteins on short arms on my wifes jeep).

The kit doesnt say it comes with shackles or a track bar. If you read the instructions, you would have found out that you need to re-drill a hole for the track bar.

And $10 says you didnt call CS

I have a 3" kit under my '98 XJ. I wanted something to clear 31's temporarily until I figured out what I was going to do. The kit was cheap, less than 300 bucks with AAL's. The XJ I just sold was a 1989 with a 6.5" Rusty's kit. I decided to start over and will start building the '98. I'll be changing out the 3" kit for something allowing me to run 33's. I'm happy with the RC kit, ride quality, etc. and would consider buying the 6.5" from them in the near future if I stay with short arms.

I've had the 4.5" lift from RC for about 7 months now and i absolutely love it, it fit on good with easy to read directions. Although i have started to notice that my front passenger side coil has started to sag, while the driver side is maintaining its height, has any one else had this problem?

Here are my 2 penny's worth. I have the 3" kit w/AAl. Put it on my 86 xj 9 months ago, that i had bought totaled and rebuilt it. I liked the ride before and after the kit. My rig had good shocks on it before the kit so I had something to compare it to. I put brand new 31x10.50 destination M/T's on at the same time so it really felt different and good. I have no sag problems yet and use this rig for side jobs, carrying alot of tools and or material to the job. Haven't done much wheeling since installing the kit but the little bit that I have done, it has performed well. I am going to cut off the boots per earlier post:spin1: I do have a problem with the stock springs being broken at the front eye. This happened before the kit but I didn't know the left one was broke until after I installed the kit. Had I known at the time, I would have upgraded to the springpacks because now I need another main leaf.:tear: I thought it was easy to install, about 4 hrs with a lift and pwr tools.
Bottom line is, good product for the price. Sometimes its all about what you know and how you do it:cheers: I geuss that was about 67 penny's worth

No problems with my RC lift. I used their Nitro Shocks and the ride and rebound is good. The add a leaf is not adequate - it only gives about 2/3 of the lift it should, I would go with their or someone elses leaf pack instead

So I've heard that the new 2.2 shocks now come with the series 2 kit also? But does any one know if this is true or not? Also I didn't see the 2.2 shocks even listed on RC's web site for an XJ, just newer model Jeeps.
