Rough Country

Well now I have to go back and read the comments about the shocks. I have uneven wear on my BFG MT front. Every other lug was worn lower, creating lots of vibs. I rotated and balanced. I was told by my mechanic and the tire guys that the shocks weren't keeping the front tires from bouncing, so I need better front shocks.

Uhhhh yea dont think so. Your problem is titled "cupping" its due first to BFG MTs sucking in compound and just sucking in general. Also can be due to bad alignment/ ball joints and incorrect tire pressures. My Ex father-in-law has the same problem on his "STOCK" F-250 and has been running BFG MTs for about 5 years.

And really "ALL" Hydro shocks suck and do get stiff........... hydro is meaning water and tends to foam up when on rough terrain. This foam causes the shocks to take more force to compress and the outcome is stiff riding shocks. Same problems with the Rancho Rs series. If wanting good shocks go with "gas filled" like Nitros or the like.

Also note that there is a difference between a NAXJA member and a NAXJA forum user - members have RED names.

Either gets hooked up though...

I did.

(Only reason I'm not a paying member is because I'm to young, and not allowed a membership...next year I suppose.)

P.S. I'll post back when I finish my installation tomorrow. As I only finished the drivers side today (took me 8hours with no past suspension experience, and little mechanical skill).

I'm still debating! Do you think $880 shipped to my door is worth it for the 6.5" kit?? The sale ends tommorow.

I paid $495 for my 4.5" with add a leaf. $530 shipped. Leaf springs would have been $200 more, so that would be $730. If you are getting new leaf springs, thats a pretty good deal.

If you've already taken care of the SYE, you should be good.

Personally I like my 4.5" but if I could have afforded to go higher I would have.

How's that for a non-commital answer?

I have had my 3" system for a month ... looks great sitting on my shelf ... I havent had time to install ... Might just get the local 4x4 shop to do it ...

Everything seems solid and well built ... I was happy with my purchase

Seems like alot of people who own RC products are happy with them. I guess its a great bang for the buck. I just dont know if I should wait a little longer and just go long arm (not trying to start a war).

I started installing my lift yesterday, and I finished today. It's awsome.

Definately a noticable lift with the 3" lift kit (full rear leafs, nitro shocks). Can't wait to get a few miles on it and see how she rides a little better.

That's great, but if you haven't learned this already let me explain it to you, WE NEED PICTURES!

I'm still learning a bunch of stuff, but from what little I know long arms would be nice to have.

I went on a trip to central Texas this past weekend. Lots of open land to wheel everywhere, and all of it fenced!

So my lifted jeep with 32" tires worked like a champ on the pavement!

I told my wife that other parts of the country may be different but it looked to me that I would have to take my Jeep to a "park" much like I would take my kids to Disney Land or something. To me that is messed up!

theyre service is top notch. theyre products could use some improvement, but that would mean higher cost. and you just cant get any better than longarms. ive owned rough country.

my .02 cents

Well on my 99 XJ I was running a Rusty's 4.5" lift and had no complaints, but when that rig was totalled I decided to go with the Rough Country Lift instead. For the most part I think the Rough Country variant is a better buy, my only complaint would be the lack of an adjustable trac-bar. For about the same price the Rusty's kit does include that. Otherwise however I liked this kit a lot. It was easier to install and the fact that the shock bushings were already installed was a really nice touch. I've installed a lot of lift and lowering kits on different vehicles for friends and myself and this was the first time I'd ever had the shocks show up with bushings already installed. Its a small touch, but sometimes the small details are the important ones. I also really liked how the kit came with both sizes of U-bolts for either the D35 or 8.25 rear axles. It saved me a lot of headache as my 92 came with a D35, but about a week or two after installing the lift I was able to acquire and install an 8.25. I have no complaints about the ride with the RC shocks and this thing definately flexes. First time on the trail I had to trim out my fenders because my 32's crashed into them and got wedged. Oh yeah, one more really nice little dtail was that my shims were already installed on my leafsprings. Again, its a small detail but just made the whole installation process that much nicer.

Here is a nice flex shot, notice how both rear tires are still flat and the chassis itself is barely leaning.

Here are the only things I would recommend:
1) In the part of the instructions that say you can fit 32x11.5 tires w/o trimming, you should add that bump stops are required. I'm on the rim offset you guys recommended and learned real quick that my fenders needed trimming.

2) If you can add in an adjustable trac-bar with the kit w/o making a huge price increase, that would make this kit just about perfect.

3) Keep up the good work, because I never expected a 650$ lift kit to perform this damn well. Especially as I'm not running drop brackets and still have my OEM upper control arms.

note: I am running new leafpacksas opposed to AAL's, quite frankly I wouldn't use AAL ever as they are crap. It wasn't that much more for the new spring packs from RC and its worth the lack of headache.

Once again, RC is defiantely a great bang for the buck and if I wasn't going LA I'd continue to run all their stuff on my suspension. That being said, I'll be running RC shocks and springs with my TnT Y-Link setup.

do you know anything at all about suspension systems? cupping is caused by the tires bouncing on the road while they are spining. it is almost always caused by shock failure. RARELY it can be caused by a tire being out of balance but it would have to be way off, and it only occurs opposite of the unbalanced mass. it has nothing to do with tire pressure or bad ball joints.

what? hydo doenst mean water when referring to shocks, its short for hydraulic. as far as i know no companies put water in thier shocks. its either oil or some type of gas. shocks stiffen up due to heat. heat makes the oil in the shock expand and over pressurizes the shock, making it unable to transfer the fluid inside.

:confused1
