RockStar Fabrication buggy - RIP

Yesterday was a bad day.

Spur of the moment run to the Badlands.

Trailering the buggy down Rt41 at 60 mph when the rear tire of the pickup blew out.

Went immediately sideways, jackknifed, heading for the ditch, thinking really bad thoughts.

Luckily, the hitch blew (never seen a pintle hitch blow like that), separating us and sending me across oncoming traffic and the trailer/buggy off the road.

Trailer stuck the hitch and polevaulted, catapulting the buggy which cartwheeled till it ended up on it’s roof.

Damn!

Glad you're OK, bro.

So, the axles going under the LR, now?

Yea, things were getting pretty sporty.

Thanking God for several things; that I managed to get the truck pointed away from the ditch(and the trailer/buggy), that the hitch blew before it pulled me into the ditch with it, and that no one was coming when I crossed into oncoming lanes.

My buddy was behind me watching the whole thing. He was more shook up than me.

Initial indications are that trailer can be rebuilt but buggy may be a total loss.

damn that sucks man, but at least your still here to let us know about it.

Looks like typical post BOTW trail damage to me...:laugh3:

Glad you're okay. Looks like the buggy just needs a new chassis.

Yea, chassis is pretty rough; broken in a few places and tweeked most everywhere (Driver compartment held up remarkably well) and at least one Walker Evans airshock is blown.

Drivetrain appears OK. Actually drove it on/off the trailer and into the shop.
Does have a slight gangsta lean :D :

Glad you're OK Brad.

How's your insurance treating you?

We'll see.
Tire didn't actually blow, it just peeled the tread off.
No reason for it.

It's an orig equip Firestone from '03
Hmmmmm.

*tear* for the buggy. X2 on you being ok tho bud.

Dang. Reminds me of when I almost cartwheeled our Durango when I was pulling a car trailer (back when I was stupid enough to think a Durango could safely pull a vehicle). Luckily I just did a 360 across 2 lanes. Trailer stayed attached but punched in the side of the truck.

Glad you are safe, the rest sucks but it's just sheetmetal.

geez, Brad!! Glad you're ok.

we've had a blowout on the boat trailer and a blowup(?) on the car trailer, the tire looked over-inflated and the sidewalls all bubbly and warped, but only had 4lbs of air in it. Both at highway speeds, never the outcome you had though.
I think our problem was dry rot, none of the tires had many miles but both had sat unused for 1-3 years.

hope everything works out for you!
