I don't know how many of you guys might have seen this, but I feel compelled to spread the word and do whatever I can to join in honoring one of our members who gave his life for the rest of us in Iraq. The Colorado Chapter thread is here:
http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=900909
They are discussing a number of different ideas, including a memorial trail run in the spring to perhaps clean up one of Seth's favorite trails and place a plaque in his honor. I for one will make every attempt to attend such an event and thought that the Midwest Chapter might wish to make an effort as a Chapter.

Wow...

So your prayers go out to his friends and family and then you go and piss on their memories by bringing politics into it?

What a cowardly, shit festering, tactless insensitive thing to do.

There is NO fucking draft at the present.

making it even more admirable and valiant to volunteer for service in the armed forces at this time.

Did he run to Canada when ordered to ship?

Did he claim himself to be a concientious objector?

Did he claim to suck dick in an effort to get discharged?

No.

He held up his head and balls and wether he agreed or not with the CIC's course of action, he said goodbye to his friends and family and did his duty...

The Duty of a Soldier.

I am a veteran and I also disagree with some of the things I did in the name of democracy but you know what?

It was my choice to sign on the dotted line.

Do us all a favor and leave politics out of the death of a soldier. We may be angry or sad at these deaths, but it's what we warriors do...

We die for what we believe in.

To every member of the armed forces, that belief may be in a different reason, but we all have our reasons...

Do not , I repeat, DO NOT bring politics into this.

There is no such thing as a presidency that is not responsible for people dying at any point in history.

I'm too pissed to continue...

next?

p.s. I suggest you find a nice rock to hide under for a while...

Sadder still is that servicemen die in order to uphold the liberties and freedoms of people like that on a daily basis...

People forget that soldiers in a volunteer army die so that they don't have to...

I've been trying to get my words together on how to describe my feelings upon reading of XJFire's death. One word comes more than any other, respect. My utmost respect for him, for willing to die, have his life end for the rights of myself and my children. As someone who has never served I can not begin to comprehend the balls it takes to do something like that. Thanks to all who have served and died, God's speed. Thanks to all who have served and lived, God's blessings.

Fuckin' HOOAH.

Well put fellas (minus the political aspect). It does sound promising that SOMETHING is going to be put together. Too early to speculate on the extent of anything though.

I'm sure there are plenty of folks out here that would support you all in coming this way. I don't have a mansion but what I do have is available to you all.

Normally the profane passages in this thread would have been removed. In this case they go to show the level of emotion that the individual posters are trying to convey, so unless directed by a higher power, they will remain...for now.

I would like to encourage that the politics be kept out of this thread.

I did not know this man, I do not recall any exchanges with him on this forum, but I still thank him and his family for their sacrifice.

Keep it on track and non-political and this thread will continue....bring politics up and get nasty and it will be gone.

Fair?

Rev

I apologize if I have in any way shamed the memory of this fallen hero as that was not my intent.

I hope and pray for a quick ending to this war and pray that none of you or your family have face the deaths of loved ones as I have.

I remember his post here about the stranded Jeep over in Ohio. I did read the forum set up in his honor, and was able to get a sense of his enthusiasm. His enthusiasm seemed to carry over to his tour in Iraq ... looking at the pic he posted and his conversation about what he was doing there.

It is sad we will not be able to meet him because of this loss of a promising young man. We should all feel honored that he, and many others have and will in the future, sacrifice their lives for our country.

I'm glad I read through the rest of the posts before responding to downshift1. Thanx, Rev.

I have some buds from HS to whom the below would apply to as well. I suffered a double-compound fracture and now have a rod in my leg, making me ineligable.:smsoap: Back to subject, if we need to discuss politics, start another thread.

Concur. A soldier is very rarely a political animal. The closer they are to battle, the less political they are.

Also, a soldier is not a maker of policy, merely an instrument of it.

Enlisted soldiers have no choice in where they go or when - that's why it's called "orders." Commissioned soldiers have some choice - they can accept assignment or resign their commissions (which I have a problem with - you can go on assignment or go to Ft. Leavenworth, just like enlisted men. Again, that's why it's called orders.

I do have issue with these people who decide to refuse deployment, especially if they've enlisted while Storm II was going on. That's what makes it all the worse - when you joined up, you know that the possibility that you'll be assigned to a forward area is there. The idea of a chain of command overrides the idea of free will - you don't get an option. You go.

However, I have nothing but respect for those among us who do "take a soldier's chance," and nothing but comtempt for those leftist nitwits who make light of it (they're not allowed - they haven't subjected themselves to the same sort of risks...) or for those who try to use the deaths of soldiers to further their political agendas. Fortunately, I haven't met any of those arseholes in person yet - give me time.

I'm not going to try to make any sort of political statement with anyone else's death, so why are there those that do? And, why are they allowed to run free?

My heart and prayers go out to Soldier Seth's family and close friends. I can't imagine how deeply the lose must hurt.

The minute a man puts on a military uniform he is a soldier, the minute the man becomes a solider he becomes my hero.

I never had the priveledge of meeting or chatting with Seth, but as a veteran and former Infanteer, my prayers and condolances go out to Seth's family and friends. I've worked with the members of the US Army and Marines when I was in the Army, and I made many good friends. They are doing a bloody outstanding job, in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Anybody who can politicise this brave soldiers sacrifice, ought to put on the boots and saddle up, because they now have to keep the freedoms because someone else has paid the price already. Time to put your money where your mouth is buddy. There are people outside of the US who do support the soldiers, and for the most part you can count on your northern neighbours.

Lets all chip in and help the Colorado chapter. If I can spend money on 4x4 parts I can sure as heck help them with the window stickers and the trail project. Jeff is the Secretary/Treasurer and will accept donations with paypal. Money is nothing compared to the sacrifices our military people make. Lets make a big effort to see the trail marker or whatever they decide on turn out real good. Someone mentioned a marker at the trail head. I dont imagine a plaque or stone marker as being cheap so lets dig down in our pockets and show them what we are like. I dont like to donate to charity groups that suck up money in salaries. I like to help people I hear about that have come on hard times. You know, working stiffs like the rest of us. I started with a go carts in my dads driveway and have been riding dirt bikes, sleds, a buggy, quads and Jeeps for 42 years. I love it. Seth loved his Jeep too. Contact planefixer.
