Rebuilding a AW4

Bought a used aw4 for 75 bucks. Wanting to rebuild it myself. The question is should replace all the bushings? The rebuild kit only comes with
  • Converter-pump bushing
  • Case bushing
but there is a full bushing kit you can add not sure if I need it.

also wondering if there any upgrades that are worth the money to throw in there?

NO answers to your questions, but take lots of pictures. I’ve read that the AW4 is a tough trans and there isn’t much to upgrade them besides maybe cooling, but all auto transmissions seem f’n magic to me…. lol

It will be my first rebuild on a transmission. And foreal. Wierd thinking about how that shit works lol

I didn't find d much for aw4 parts so i never built the one have.

I wouldnt worry to much about doing all the bushing.

Get gpz clutches if you can maybe alto steels. Might be able to fit a frictiin or more in packs if thinner alto steels are avalable.

There is a ton on info on this thread about not only rebuilding an AW4, but performance upgrades as well.
Super AW4 Rebuild

I'll be watching. I have an AW4 that works great but it's a RWD. I also have a later model AW4 with t-case that I bought off someone's garage floor so no idea if it'll work. I might rather replace the output shaft of the 2WD that I know works rather than install the other.
