reason for selling...

Talking with a bud earlier about notching tube and he pointed out that it might be something I should add to this. Not everyone has a notcher but for someone with a welder, bender and a grinder, a cage can be easily built. I'll gop through the build of my cage shortly but for now I'll just show how I do notching in 2 min.

After you get your tubing bent up and ready to go in, always leave extra to trim to legnth. Once you have measured and decided where your end point of the tubing needs to be to intersect with the other, cut it. I'll show a 90* in this but same theory applies to any degree with some basic geometry.

What I do is cut into the tubing at approx 30* angles from the side, leaving about .5" flat on the end once both cuts are made. You don't want it to be pointed, the tubing will not wrap that far around same size tubing.

This is when I will change to a coarse grit flap disk on the grinder. starting at the lowest point of the cuts I will drag from the center out and create a better fitment to the tubing.

This is what you will end up with when it's done on both sides.

Once it fits great go over it and clean it up and put a bevel on the tube and you're done...

:listenmus your cage is starting to rust :scared:

started on cage tonight around 5. main hoop is in, a-pillar bars are in, dash bars and dash vertical are in, still needs harness bar and rear runners if I decide to do them but I'm thinking I'm not going to run them. Anyone see a reason I need to cut holes in the back of my cab to run 2 bars to the rear frame rails?

Would have to see what you have first. But off the top of my head, it would strengthen the cage from folding back in a vertical roll off a ledge. A hard hit like that could fold the whole cab backwards. And I really do not want to pull your ass out of that mess! :) You could build a hoop in the bed with down bars. Then attach it with a plate to the cab and then do the same with the cage inside. Just bolt them together then you dont have a hole in the rear you have 4 small holes. LOL!

cage needs some paint but it's all done and welded, ended up running through the rear cab wall.

Also spent some time on the lathe today and got the pully machined for the york 210, took it from a double v bent to a serp style.

No bed pics, here is the interior. Harnesses go in tomorrow along with the CB and then the interior is done. Yes, that's gator on the seats.

What did you steal those out of?

I like the cage Matt I cant wait to get mine done. Im just going to let you have the jeep for a day and you can just go with it. Nice touch with the gator covered seats, riding in true southern comfort.

Thanks. Glenn, the seats are factory MJ buckets without headrests. The cage sits on top of the seat and the upper main hoop supports will have pads on them for head protection.

Looks good but I have never seen that on mj or xj seats before.

very nice matt!!! i've been waitin' to see those seats for awhile now...

mmm... just need to come up with a design for me now, lol.
