Rear bumper-spare tire carrier

Get out of here with that nonsense sir! :D
haha dont get me wrong i like it... but someone went dimple die happy....

mj does look like pure sex though.

as far as getting this back on topic.... my rear bumper i made is pretty boring... just some 2x4 with a hitch and d ring tabs and 2x2 running under the rear fender fold. works good for me and cost me hardly any money.

On the MJ

Isn't that the MJ that just attended the Ultimate Adventure in 4 Wheel & Off Road magazine?

Sure is Ed.

Here is a stinger style rear bumper I was talking about.

Andy and I talked about those once. I'm not a big fan but I can see where they can work well.

Didn't build it, but bought it from a guy on here, its very functional and the approach and departure angles are insane. The only thing I would like to improve on it is the latch portion. Instead of a screw on piece I would like to knock that out and use an actual push button latch.

Is your spare a drag slick? :D

Nice to see Tyler chime in when there's a dime to be made. After seeing how he narrowed Mark's D44 I'd think twice about the bumper.

Just to set the record straight, I have had no issues with the axle, in fact it's exactly what I wanted and it performs great.

Ed, if you cut and fold the rear, you need to make sure you have extensions coming from the bumper towards the wheel well. That way if you ever get into anything, you have a little more there than just some sheet metal. I know thats what I want to do with mine after I cut and fold. I'll need to modify my JCR to accomodate that.

sidewall blew out in the real spare, and the rim got jacked with loose lugnuts. That's my excuse. Also, that spare worked well on the MJ when that idiot dropped debris and killed the sidewall on THAT tire too! hahaha

and the rim got jacked with loose lugnuts.

THAT is why I enjoy living where I live. I could put a brand new tire with brand new rim on the back of my Jeep with loose lugnuts and not worry about it.

I haven't locked my front door when leaving the house in 5 years.

I lock them at night and pray for the poor soul that opens it.

Back on topic now.

That is some good looking tube! I want to do something similar with the front and back, working on finding somebody with a bender in the area. I have the front drawn up I'll see if I can get it scanned.

That is quite interesting and unique. I like! As for rears w/swing away's... I like MORE's It seems to be one of the most integrated. I've got an old school JCR and am mostly happy with it. I hadn't seen the new design, and I like it. I had a BulletProof (that is now on DrRandy's rig) that was one tough bumper! Oh, and good luck buying a good rear w/swing away for much less than 1k. Hansen makes some good looking, tough bumpers too... $$$
