Rear bumper-spare tire carrier

After this weekends adventure, it looks like a cut and fold (or cut off and replace with sheetmetal) will need to eventually happen to my XJ. I came down hard on the quarter just behind the passenger rear tire, mashing it up pretty good. Also my bumper is pretty flimsy to boot.

I was all geared up to get a Tailbone from Detours but now I think I'm going to see about a rear bumper/tire carrier that extends under the quarters.

My only parameters are to keep the cost low but very functional and strong.

So what are your thoughts?

I like the look of the Detours slimline.

The JCR Crusader Series looks pretty cool but it is $900 before adding any options (or so I figure from the website).

Any thoughts or recommendation on a better setup for less bucks?

Here is Dirtbounds CNF bumper. I really like the profile but there is not a spare tire carrier option.

If I hadn't already given them $1200 for bumpers, I'd be all over those new ones! :yelclap:

JCR has 4 of these old style units left but they don't address the CNF. $700 + $105 shipping.

I can build you whatever you want Ed, but I know Glenn is closer, but then again I'm a site sponsor so that's kinda up to you I guess. If you want a cut and fold on the rear I can build you something that will go well with that and also offer you protection for that. Maybe do something similar to what I did for Dan??? Although I have some different ideas that would look good on your Jeep.

I was admiring Dan's bumper at the Flog but failed to take any pictures of it. I like the profile although I think his is made to eventually accept an exocage down the road.

Can anyone provide a picture?

Since we can't seem to play nice, I think I'll just wait to figure what I want to do. This was supposed to be fun.

Glad to see you opened this back up Ed.

Granted this is on an mj, but i just like the likes. Food for thought.
