Re: where have all the good cherokees fs gone

Even with R&R of the t-case a SYE install should only take a day.

Re: where have all the good cherokees fs gone

Got rid of the bushwacker flares today, and ended up with a 231 and some factory MJ leaf springs, big thanks to Mark, hes a super nice guy!

The mj leafs have a 3" add-a-leaf ill be pulling out and then ill be using my springs to make an xj/mj bastard leaf pack using the mj main leaf. This should give me a little stretch in the rear, about 3" or so, so ill be needing a pair of boomerang shackles and will be picking up a set of hdoffroad relocation brackets when i get around to swapping the springs.

I wanted to run deavers front and rear but i think ill do deaver coils and try the bastard pack first before i drop a ton of $ on deaver leafs...i think mj leafs will ride and flex a little better being longer and flatter. And a slight stretch will be nice too.

I also might have a lead on a set of 44s to go under my jeep!

Re: where have all the good cherokees fs gone

I don't know of a matched D44 combo that would be 8x6.5 bolt pattern front and rear. 5x4.5 on the TJ Rubicons (but the front is a low pinion and runs D30 C's and beyond), 6x5.5 on the Jeep Wagoneer stuff, and 5x5.5 on the CJ's. Ford's would be 5x5.5 or 8x6.5 but they had 9" and Dana 60 rears respectively. GM would have 6x5.5, but I don't think they ran rear D44's either. Oh, Scout stuff. Those should also be 5x5.5 pattern and they would have Dana 44's front and rear.

Re: where have all the good cherokees fs gone

Ahhh, the infamous Isuzu rear. Damn, I missed that one.

Re: where have all the good cherokees fs gone

I didn't list opinions, I listed options.

I was commenting on your typo there

Re: where have all the good cherokees fs gone

Just when i this close (holding my fingers very close) to pulling the trigger on a set of axles...troy had to go and post up a built mj on the "best of craigslist" thread. I thought for about 10 minutes about which was a better deal, spending a ton of money on a pair of axles, lockers, gears, driveshafts, shocks, and other things, plus finding time and a place to install all of the parts and do the necessary cutting/mods to the body of my jeep...or just buying a rig thats 90% built already and keep my xj nice for dd and camping.

I drove up to longmont sunday and looked at the truck, everything looks great on it, the few issues it has are tiny and fairly easily fixed or not even worth doing anything about. The PO worked for poison spyder customs previously and earthroamer currently and has great fab skills. Both bumpers mount using unibody plating and lots of bolts, and same with the sliders, even the bench seat is mounted using 1.75" tubing and big floor plates, meant to be the start/base of a roll cage. The spare tire mount flips around to lay on the open tailgate to get full use out of the bed space, and has mounts that go through the bed floor and tie into the rear bumper. This was meant to also be a terminating point of a bed cage.

Heres a pic of it in my apartment parking lot yesterday next to my friend aarons (LCGEEPIN) comanche.

My comanche has a hp44/9" combo with 5.13s and a dana300 with the twin stick conversion already done. I wanna do a 4:1 on the 300 and find selectable lockers for the axles as they are both open right now. The PO did give me a spare carrier with a mini spool installed as well as bearings so its ready to be swapped back into the rear axle, but i wanna try and find either a detroit or arb or whatever i can source secondhand before i put the spool in.

Apart from lockers the truck essentially NEEDS nothing, but there is a small list of things i wanna change and add as i build funds back up. Im glad to have 2 vehicles again, now i can stop worrying about working on the xj...just get my other door on and get it back to one color and keep it nice.

Re: where have all the good cherokees fs gone

So are you going to transplant the pre-runner fenders to the MJ?

I was debating doing that then putting the front napier flares and stock fenders back on my xj, but I really like the stance and look of my xj with the hannemanns so ill throw a pair of napier flares on the back of the xj then call it good.

I never planned on building my xj to a point where it would run the kinds of things the Comanche will be able to run, I don't think they would last on the mj

Re: where have all the good cherokees fs gone

Good gawd that's a sexy MJ Seth. Good and smart buy.

Just waiting for you to bring it by sometime so I can see it..... And collect my finder's fee....:D

Re: where have all the good cherokees fs gone

Saw it tonight. Great rig, well plan build to continue. Should be impressive on the trail. Like the shifting of the t-case. Wicked rig. Great investment Seth.

Re: where have all the good cherokees fs gone

Seth swung by my place earlier tonight too. AWESOME Comanche. Incredible fab work. He let me drive it and I will be adding a Hurst shifter to my want list for my Eliminator. Seth's got a few typical Jeep bugs to work through but man, I'm jealous!

That use of the JK rear seat worked out pretty well - kinda cool having a 60/40 split bench that folds way down like that for the small cab of the MJ.

Post up a pic of that seat up and folded down Seth!

Re: where have all the good cherokees fs gone

Sounds like an awesome rig. Maybe I can see it on the trail this summer
