Project "girly" jeep

How's the Jeep coming along? Lockers in yet? Rear end squared away?

I hope to see this rig in person in about a week and a half.

did you cut the bottom of the doors off when you did the rockers or keep them stock?
what did you use to tie them into the frame rails?
looks great so far!

It's locked front and rear, I reset the gears but its still got a loud bearing so its not getting dded just yet.... but we will be wheeling, it also has a bumper and winch on it as well

Doors are stock and they are braced to the pillars.... they aren't braced back to the frame but we haven't had an issue on any of the other rocker replacements Tyler has done

made a wee bit of progress today i built the dirtbound offroad bumper kit a few days ago (full writeup coming soon) but today i did some more finish work to it and added paint, aligned the steering wheel, got the tcase skid hoop welded on, and mountedd a fire extinguisher inside

sorry for the crappy phone pics, shes got her camera in the truck

FYI if your looking for a good trail fire extinguisher the kidde auto/marine is a great deal. its about 20 bucks at lowes or any marine store, is the perfect size, and comes with a decent little bracket to bolt in the jeep.

If you really care about your rig...and I seriously mean this...

Get rid of that fire extinguisher and spend some good money on a real one. Those ones, especially the kiddie brand, aren't much worth their weight in dirt.

Better than nothing.

I had a kidde, small one just like that save my jeep.

Going down the road my drivers side caliper got stuck, i thought i could make it home, a whole bunch of smoke, and then before you know it, there was fire shooting out of my wheel.

I grabbed the extingusher, and squeezed the trigger, the fire went right out.

i plan on upgrading it but for the price its better than nothing..... ive equipped every boat i sold when i was in the biz with one and they worked fine then....

enough about fire extinguishers and onto more exciting things.... as you know the current rear axle is hurting, every bearing is unhappy, it leaks thru a new axle seal and the ring and pinion is toast. To get it ready for the crawl i bought an aussie locker, slapped it all together and ran it, screaming bearing and all.

David (256offroad) was kind enough to donate the 27 spline 8.25 out of his dd that he replaced some time ago. So the plan is to use his good housing and its good bearings and Sam's locked 29 spline carrier and shafts and build a trick trussed 8.25 so she can dd wherever she wants to go. i started tearing the new housing apart tonight

ibdont mind the housing work, but i really hate setting up gears. i assume the 8.25 is like the dana 44 and the ring and pinion are custom fit to the housing, right?

Well the nice thing about the 8.25 is that it uses threaded adjusters instead of shims under the bearings like a dana axle..... I built an adjustment tool to turn them from outside the housing so gear setup is as easy as turning a ratchet

How do you like having ruffstuff heims on both ends on the lowers? How is the ride on the street? road noise?

its amazing, it drives like a car and the noise really isnt an issue, i do notice a little extra road vibration but it gets covered up by rolling on mt's all the time.... i wont build another suspension with a crappy rebuildable joint. when a hiem goes bad ill just buy a new one and screw it in

Nice.

I figured all of the hype about heims transferring huge amounts of noise and vibration was typical forum bs.

it is a lot of interweb hype..... if you wheel your rig pretty hard theyre the only way to go. i had ballistic and poly joints in my wagoneer and they lasted 3 or 4 trips and i couldnt keep them in it. She wheels this jeep as hardcore as its built and they have held up to her right foot

went in the 100 degree heat to the pullapart and grabbed a set of zj disc brake brackets today. was going to get some panels for my dd car but it was wayyyy to hot, felt like i lost a gallon of sweat just pullng these, and the axle was already taken apart! gonna get some new wear parts for them and try to get them bolted up tomorrow. Also started templating out the truss tonight, gonna see if theres a cheap sheet of 3/16 plate at the salvage yard when the template is done
