Project: Freak of Nature

Just figured i'd have a better chance of bending a heim with as much of the threads that are showing.

they will be fine, just rub some cheese on them...its all good.

Just trying to button this thing up for a trip in 2 weeks. Getting closer each day but will be close. Still need to try and figure out some drive shafts for it. Planning on just making them since this thing pretty much doesn't see street time anymore. Thinking its had about 2,000 miles put on it in past 2-3 years.

Just watch out for the bus load of nuns...

mac 'you're close to LJ miles' gyvr

I'd definitely address that. Especially the tie rod, because it clearly will have way too much leverage put on the shanks of those heims. At the very least, do Brian's method.

And I'm talking leverage that a big arse rock will have on it during a hard hit lol.

Yea I'm gonna leave it for now. Trying my hardest to make it ready for the rouch world trip coming up. Will just cut and sleeve it after that trip.

Gonna go to junk yard on Saturday to try and find a couple drive shafts I can cut down to make work. Ones I have are about 3" to short

Sounds like a good plan!

When I had the Ford 44 in the front of my old jeep, I was able to use the stock XJ shaft because the 44 housing is longer. Did you push yours forward?
Guess I must have it pushed forward a little bit. Didn't think I did but guess so.

Measure you tie rod, I have one welded together already that might be able to help you out.

I'm gonna say it's roughly 55" from center heim to center heim

Well had to stop by the local 4wd shop here in town today to pick up some lock outs. Guess I forgot to pull all the inner guts out of the axles I pulled parts from before I scrapped it. Got me a set of warn premium hubs on it now so getting a lot closer.

While I was in the shop I noticed a good looking xj that they were working on. They were taking an 8" lift off and lowering it down to about 3-3.5". Well they come to find out the front driveshaft was an aftermarket unit and was to long for the new lift height. Guess I came in at the right time and lucked out cuz I was able to swap him one of my stock xj front shafts for the extended shaft he had. Worked out for us both and now I have drive shafts front and rear installed and didn't have to make either one.

Doing brake lines tomorrow after work. Hopefully be driving it this weekend.

Well finally filling up the diffs with fluid so I can take it for a drive only to find out the rear end doesn't have a fill plug in the third member. Looks like I get to disassemble the rear axle to put fluid in it. Just what I felt like doing today.
