Project: Freak of Nature

I have dealt with this a couple times, beat the **** out of it, its the only way.

yep. PB and some heat can help too buts its mostly all about the BFH

I've run into this as well. Cut off wheel removes the drums just fine.

Finally got the drum off tonight. Had the boy out there helping me pry on it while I beat on the drum with a bfh. Don't think I've ever had one come off that hard.

Now I'm trying to get the axle shafts out. Anybody have any tips? Don't have a slide hammer or I would use it

Can you rent a slide hammer or get one at harbor freight? I wanna say I used my air hammer to get between the axle flange and hub but I took chances on messing up the sealing surface in both but I got lucky and didn't

Actually got them out after a little pulling and prying on them. Now to finish tearing down the 44 and going thru them.

Ended up just getting tires and rims mounted up so I could move the axles for daughters birthday party. I think they will look good on the Jeep.

The jeep is gonna be blue with silver on the bumpers, cage, long arms, and such. Thought these would go well with that. Atleast that is what the picture of it in my head will look like.

Been toying with the idea of when the jeep is torn down to swap out the 242 t-case for a 231 and get the boost works linkage for it. Is there any real benefit to doing this? Past couple times we have had jeep out we have had some problems with the front output kicking out and leaving me with just rear wheel drive. Just didn't know if it would be beneficial to swap in a 231.

cant comment on the 242, but the boostwerks linkage works nice. kind of annoyed i bought it though, as ill be getting rid of it when i go doubler. with that said... i only ever had issues with the stock linkage when using a stock crossmember that got beat up and bent easily. the stock linkage should never go out of adjustment when using a beefy crossmember. just my experience anyway.

i agree. i have never had an issue with the stock linkage so i've never seen the need to upgrade it.

Ok so leaving the linkage stock. Is there any real difference between the 231 and 242 cases that would make it a with while upgrade/swap

If you are having problems with it kicking out of gear you may have worn shift fork pads.

I have the Novak cable linkage and it is excellent. Never had a problem shifting no matter how bound up.

I can get it to shift but it seems that as soon as I would try to climb a hill down at WF the front out put would disengage. May just need adjusted
