Didn't 96+ have the 29 spline upgrade already? I'm pretty sure they made the switch in 96. Front axles u-joints too, but I could be wrong on this.

If the manufacture date is in late 96 (around sept+), you probably already have a 29 spline 8.25.
You will need to determine if its a 27 or 29 before you order a locker. The only 100% way of knowing is to pull an axleshaft and count the splines.
