Playing with the details

OK, so where's the details on the roll over? I see a lot of damage. :D

Yup, I was on a roll that day LOL, the second one, I actually finished the course, third roll happened when the steering colum snapped and I could not get it to turn right. I replaced the tilt steering colum with a non tilt colum this time. Not gonna have that happen again, it broke right at the tilt portion of the steering colum shaft

picked up the tube this morning and stopped and picked up a ton of cut off wheels also. Then spent a while cleaning mud and water out of the shop from yesterdays downpour. Now I am sitting around hoping UPS will show up a day early with the die I need to get started, otherwise I will be starting on it Saturday afternoon

Started bending up tube this morning, Got the hood bars and tie ins to the stinger all mocked up, pretty much turned out like the Photochop pic. Once I get the new upper shock mounts figured out and mocked up, it will be time to start welding it up. My buddy will be stopping by Tuesday to weld a couple things on his jeep so I will have him bring the cameara along for pic updates

I think the beauty will be making a comeback, was just out there and decided to see what it would look like with the fiberglass XJ Fenders on it, with a little reworking I can get them back on. It actually looks pretty awesome with them. I will have to fix them first since I desrtoyed them again and then lengthen the wheelwells and move the flares up on them but it is all doable. Gotta get the tube work done first and then I will play with them

Progress has been slow due to life, I should have it back on it's front legs tomorrow, finally decided on how I wanted to do the front shock hoops and went to town, drivers side is all welded up and passenger side is about 90% done, then I will add the shock tabs and set it back on the ground. Then comes the fun of getting all the wireing back in place and mounting the front nose and hood pin mounts made. Found a new hood which I gotta make a quick trip over to KY to pick up.

I assume the old cage was HREW? Are you using DOM this time? Hopefully, it should be able to handle slow rollovers. Mine's been rolled quite a few times now, a couple of them pretty hard, with no evidence it's ever been over........but it's built like a brick shit house.

The front looks good so far.

The 2 main places that gave where the cross bar at the windseild upper and lower which in turn sucked the rest of the cage in, I am planning to sleeve 1.5 inside the 1.75 at these 2 spots this time to reinforce it this time. Everything else was tied in all the way down to the floor bars and held fine. I will also be adding the wind wing bars so that I can add window nets for when they are required

Can you tie the dash bar into an engine cage, or a cross bar inside the cowl? When the chassis depends on the stock cowl for strength then the cage strength is compromised. Since you don't have wipers anymore, there is a pretty big space in that area directly in front of the dash, and it shouldn't be too hard to run tube across there, under the top piece of sheetmetal. Then the two middle windshield bars can tie into that cross bar as well as the dash bar, adding quite a bit of strength.

I am tinking doing it the same way as before but also adding another cross bar along just above the bottom of the dash and then some upright from there to the top dash bar. This would double the strength in theory anyways. I have not gotten to that point yet so I have time to think about it some more. I have the shock hoops completely welded up now and already made the shock tabs and have them tacked in place now.The shocks are mounted in also to check clearances one last time before I weld them all up. I should be able to finish up all the front end stuff by the end of the weekend

Picked up the new hood Frog gave me from Kyjeepers house yesterday, got up this morning, made a pattern and went to town cutting it up, moved the outer side edges to where the new edge would be and welded it all up, tac tac tac for 2 hours. then took a flap disk and got it all ground down nice and clean, then made patterns for the hoop cutouts and got them done. it is all mounted up and fits like a glove. Keith was gonna stop by today and get pics for me to post but it looks like that will be on hold since he is at the hospital with Christy so she can get her appendix taken out. Getting alot closer to posting after pics I guess

woo hoo, got it sitting on it's front legs now, now I need to make all the new mounting for the stuff under the hood that used to be mounted on the fender wells. Too dang hot out there to continue for now so I am gonna go jump into the pool for a while and cool off

Are you gong to be at the Merock in Dayton TN this weekend for the night event?

Mark

nope, I did not even know about that one, I know Werock is having one August 28th but I have plans to hit Harlan with my son and a bunch of friends that weekend. I let my 12 year old drive out at Harlan and he is really looking forward to it. Either way I gotta finish all the stuff I have been doing to the jeep before I can go anywhere. been working on getting all the wiring routed and mounts for the stuff that used to mount to the fenderwells done thn I can move on to redoing the upper cage
