Plastic trim coming off (pics)

The black plastic trim that runs along the bottom of my doors on my 99 Sport is starting to peel off. It's actually catching the passenger door at times. Searched, but couldn't find anything specific. Anybody encounter this or know of a way to fix it? I've got a few pics.

Take it all the way off (looks better IMO) then put some sliders on (those work real well as a door ding protector) and clean up the goo with paint thinner or whatever, If you really want to keep it, your best bet I think would be to remove it all the anyway and then clean up the door and the back of the rub strip and start fresh with some new double stick tape.

I'd rather leave them on, but I'm not totally against taking them off. You have any pics of one with them off? By chance a green 2-door? :spin1:

Go to your local auto parts store and pick up some 3M automotive trim tape (this is what Jeep put 'em on with). Take the trim off and clean off the old tape (you might want to use one of 3M's adhesive removal wheels), then once both surfaces are nice and clean re-install with the new tape. :wave1:

Yep. I myself have not used the 3M wheel but I've heard on several occasions that it works like magic. Takes all the elbow-grease out of the job!!!

3M tape works well on the door trim. My buddy took the trim off his green 01 which looks pretty cool. I like it both ways. I think it depends on the color.

Thanks guys. I think I'll try the 3M stuff and put them back on, and if that sucks or looks like crap, I'll just go without. The passenger side is a little bent and cracked. It does look good without them though. Thanks for the pics. After I do it, I'll try and put some updated pictures up. On a side note, what has your buddy done to his green XJ, lift, tires, any problems encountered, etc., it looks good. Kinda the direction I'd like to head with mine.

I took my plastic stick on peices right off my jeep. I live in rhode Islande and they over salt the road all winter longe and all the plastic does is hold it to the body. So i pulled off the plastic scuffed it up a little with a scotch bright and put down a few good layers of hurculiner(19.99 at wal-mart) and it look agressive holds the rust together and is pretty well dent resistant.
p.s wish i had pics but camera broke.

Like I said its a 2001 XJ. It has a 3" lift kit from Rough Country. Kit included all new coils and leafs. Its running 31x10x15 BFG All Terrain T/A. On the front there is a Warn grill guard with a pair of cheap Napa Lights. On the roof the roof rack has been removed and the factory sport utility bars were added. On the front bars two lights were added for off roads use. Also had factory skid plates and rear tow hook. There was a problem with the driveling at first. He fixed the problem with a custom CV drive shaft to reduce vibration. Unfortunately he has recently sold the XJ for a 2006 TJ X. I have more pics of it if needed.

ok, so funny thing, i have a green 2dr, i dont have my trim off tho, i know it will look better when i do, i will be removing it when wisconsin comes out of deep freeze (march/april). I think with the added length of the two door trim it becomes more prone to warping, mines starting to lift a lil, not like yours though
