Pennsylvania State Forest Use

Hey i'm wondering if anyone knows if it's legal to wheel on trails in the pennsylvania state forest. Weiser state forest is near me and i've been back in there and seen some trails that are obviously used regularly. there are some service roads that are blocked off by the usual gates but there are a handful of trails that are not gated or posted or anything. i know what it's like to be busted for wheeling where i'm not supposed to and I don't want it to happen again, so i'd like anyone's input on whether these trails are legal.

It's been my experience that any Forest Road within the states NF's are fair game unless posted/gated. If you want to be certain email the local ranger district.

But i'd shy away from the term "wheeling" and substitute it for vehicular travel. They tend to frown upon the wheelin mindset, we have hit road blocks asking about travel within the NF's when using the term Jeepin till they got to know us and understood our intentions.

Not familiar with Weiser...i'll have to look that up.

hey thanks. weiser is just up by port clinton, above hamburg. i ended up in there doing some mountain biking once and went back to check it out but i wasn't sure i wanted to explore the trails alone and without checking to see if it was legal. it's pretty secluded back there, beautiful. one of the best views on the AT is nearby, called "the pinnacle"...anyway, i'll see if i can get in touch with the rangers before i check it out. thanks john

Are you talking about that one trail that leads off Rt. 61, like up a hill on the right once you get past the town?

I know that the main trail itself there is legal passage, and it's actually somewhat maintained. I've been several miles back on that one. I don't know about the little offshoot trails from it, but I didn't really see any that I could fit a jeep down either.

I would like to find this out too. I know guys ride there atvs out there but there is a bunch of state game lands in dills burg that the go riding but i didnt know if I could take my Jeep back or not.
