Opinions on 1/4" Diamond Plate

I have designed my own rocker guards and have a line on some 1/4" rocker plate. Likes? Dislikes? I am not a fan of the diamond plate look, and will definitely POR 15 them to Black. How wacky would it be to mount them inside out (rough inside?)
