So I found
when I was in the dorms, freshman year.
Turns out I was just a few hundred yards away from Brett, although I didn't know it and didn't find
until after he left Davis. He parked his MJ in a lot just across the street from me. Nearly stock, shortarms, coils, leafs in the back, daily driven. I drove a bicycle everywhere.
The first time I met up with
, Jason gave me a ride to Keven's place in his stock XJ and we put a lift onto Bronco's Jeep and half a lift onto Keven's.
My first
run, I met up with Billy (stock axles, stock gears, open/open on 35s), Keven (same but with ATs instead of MT/Rs), and Jeff (stock, stock, open/open, 32s or 33s). Billy swapped to fullwidths and sold his Jeep, Jeff started swapping in some built stock axles but I don't know if he ever finished, and Keven sold his Jeep to me. :confused1
That winter, I went up to Foresthill and had some axle work done. Jes had 33s on stock axles and shortarms and was starting his roll cage. Andy still had the complete Princess in his driveway and had the new chassis on saw horses in his garage.
That spring I went on a snow run to Malokoff Diggins. Jason was on his 44 and 9", but Big Red was still just steinjeep and had a grey Jeep. I learned the value of extra gas, and a little while later, the value of a fire extinguisher.
That summer I went to our local national event. Porch Puppy had a pristine, full bodied rig. David Taylor had a full bodied rig. Paul S had a front clip and a windshield, maybe even a D30. CRASH wheeled. I've even seen pictures of SeanP on Barrett from that trip.
Farmer Matt had his green tractor, which was probably white when I first got here, and I remember the rollout pictures of the CAT.
I made a run up to Greenhorn when Justin's Jeep was stock and when Brett's MJ still had a bed.
Stoney is hardcore, but does he even come around here anymore? I think he was on my first snow run.
I've run with Letterman when he was on 33s, 36s, and now 37s.
I've sat and watched Opie take apart his front end more times than I'd like to count. I almost goaded him in to swapping out his D44 and 9" in favor of a D30 and D44.
I've gotten cheap used parts, junkyard parts even, and I've learned the value of ordering from companies that have warehouses full of parts ready to ship.
I've been to the Hammers...in my own Jeep, even.
Ok, so I was just thinking about this because of Justin's comment in the pictures from Greenhorn, but it is kind of cool to look at some of the things that have changed around here in the time it's taken me to almost graduate.
