I've never given the mass media much credit nor do I listen to them. I realized he was a whackjob when I watched him debate the candidates a few years back and got his ass handed to him. He looked like a lost puppy in a cage of hungry pittbulls. All I could think to myself was "really??? People actually think this loser could stand up to all the political pittbulls and run this country? REALLY???"

Not at all. You have it reversed...it was the isolationism of this nation in the 1930's that led us into WWII.

Yes, we were generally isolationist militarily back then.

If we had stuck to that isolationism, then we never enter WWII.

Or, are you saying had we been LESS isolationist during the 30's we would have intervened and never let Hitler's regime gain the power it eventually did?


Because, it was by definition a shift away from isolationism that moved us into WWII. And the argument goes, that had we not entered WWII when we did... we would have been facing Japan on the left and Germany on the right and no one left to help us fight them off.

And, that same threat is very real today. If we stand by and do nothing, then maybe Iran and Saudi Arabia finally have it out... then the victor, flush with new power and wealth goes on a tear and steamrolls Kuwait and UAE and Jordan and Palestine and Iraq and Israel and , and every other nation that couldn't resist a nuclear armed middle east monster... so the middle east eventually is a single unified, very powerful, very wealthy force, that in general, hates America.

Europe at this point has no military (except Russia)... so eventually this new power takes over western Europe... and BAM, now their knocking on our door from right across the pond.



Is that what we fear from "isolationism"?

Damn, I agree with Beezil. I lived a long time saying that when they hit our shores, I'll be there armed and ready. I'm an anarchist, an American anarchist, not some silly euro that runs around with a Che t-shirt on. The reality is that people out there have declared war on the US. They have done warlike acts on the US. Whether or not we incited those acts is immaterial. They believe it is a war, and we would be retards to ignore it.

I'm also an atheist, but I do think that "Revenge is mine, sayeth the Lord." is good advice. I don't see our overseas adventures as revenge, rather as reminders to play nice.

I like much of what Ron Paul says, but I've put my money on Herman Cain.

But... why is it OUR problem?

Why are we worried about potential casualties on the South-North Korean border?

Me personally... I would rather use those resourcesto stop the thousands of ACTUAL casualties happening on our southern border every year.

Sounds simple enough. Just balance the budget.



How does a Democratic President and a Republican House pass a budget with 3.7 trillion in spending and only 2.6 trillion in expected revenue? So, going in, they plan to add 1.1 trillion to the national debt. And who really thinks we'll come in under budget. We have 14.7, 14.8 trillion in debt now. By the end of next year, we will easily be at 16 trillion plus... with no end in sight to deficit spending... and no end in sight to printing up more money making the money in my and your bank account worth ever less.



And we want to keep throwing votes at that? Seriously?

Let's keep throwing our votes at the two party system that is literally driving America into the ground.

OK. You get my point. If we stop intervening in sh*thole 3rd world countries here and there, then yes eventually young men and women will have to enter the fray in a more dynamic way then they are now. It was a poor idea in the 1930's and its a worse idea now. If that's what Ron Paul and his supporters are advocating just another reason for me to believe he is not a viable candidate.

Candidates make these grandiose claims and promises, like then candidate Obama's comments about Guantanamo Bay and the detainees...hasn't closed yet has it? They become President and the get read into the programs and their eyes glaze over.

About the Koreas you are misinformed. North Korea can reach the US with a missle hidden in a container aboard a commercial vessel. it would be suicide for North Korea to do it but it can be done.

While temporarily assigned to CNFK in the 1990's I was told that the ROKs reimburse the US for our presence on the pennisula. Never verified that statement but it came from a flag officer.

I also would like to stop the violence along our southern border.

Actually it was the economic terms of the treaty of Versailles which destroyed the German economy and let to mass unrest, and the French and allied failure to enforce the disarmament portions of the treaty which allowed Germany to rebuild it's military.

If the US had not been in an isolation state the probablity that the Nation would have entered WWII in late 1936 would be higher also. The rape of Nanking in the east and the Blitzkrieg across Poland may not have occurred. The wild card is would the carnage had been less?


Now back to Ron Paul....I believe he has a correct stance on public education that it should be the providence of the states.

We were HARDLY isolationist in the pacific prior to WWII.

You'll never find a perfect candidate. I'm voting for Ron Paul because he's the only candidate who might actually reign in the power of the feds and particularly the executive branch.
