Why am I voting for Ron Paul?
The federal government abuses the constitution to do what the heck it wants and I'm sick of it.
I'm sick of the abuse of the interstate commerce and health and welfare clauses. This insanity really started in the Wickard v. Filburn case in 1942 when the supreme court ruled that farmer Roscoe Filburn couldn't grow his own wheat to feed his own animals. The court ruled this was constitutional because it AFFECTED interstate commerce. AFFECTED it! There was no commerce! How can you regulate the ABSENCE of commerce? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wickard_v._Filburn
I'm sick of the erosion of our right to be free from unreasonable search and seizure. This country has turned into a police state. Cops are executing no-knock warrants and shooting dogs and grandmothers for a few grams of weed and more often than not they get the wrong house. We have more people in prison than communist China, and not per capita, just more. Who benefits? The prison-industrial complex. It's a waste of money. I'm not a bleeding heart; somebody breaks into your house, shoot 'em. Somebody commits violent crimes, hang 'em high. I want my kids to be safe, not just from criminals, but from an overreaching authoritarian government.
I'm sick of inflation and funny money. I'm sick of people who think the federal government should or even can control the economy. They best they can do at this point is to not screw it up worse. I'm sick of the feds picking winners and losers. My company has a viable product but we lost our DOE loan bid to Solyndria; now we see how that turned out.
I'm sick of our unaffordable unwinnable pointless wars; war on drugs, war on terror... Did you know that more people are killed annually by bees than by terrorism? Maybe it's time to declare war on bees. I'm sure the politicians would jump all over it if it threw some pork in their barrel.
There are some things I disagree with Ron Paul on. I'm all for the EPA and I'd support a constitutional amendment to authorize it. And frankly I support single payer healthcare, although I'd rather see it at the state level. Oh wait Vermont is doing it at the state level and Ron Paul supports state's rights to do that.
The presidency isn't a dictatorship and Ron Paul isn't going to fly in and wave a magic wand and suddenly transform America into his vision. And despite his media portrayal he's very pragmatic and knows we have to wean ourselves off big government. But he can start to steer us in a better direction.
I don't think I'd want Ron Paul for governor of my state, but for president he's just what the doctor ordered. Peace, prosperity, freedom, and justice.
